I am considering many different typs of boats for the river.
I like to fish bass and running shallow (slop) water is nessasary.

Can you give me some pros, cons and any personel experiences with a tunnel hull??
    Thanks

I believe the main purpose of a tunnel hull is simply to leave somewhat undisturbed water to enhance jet motor performance, so the hull isn’t leaving a void causing the pump to draw in air. i think its called cavitation.

Check out the Alumacraft boat website. I have sold their tunnel hull jon boats rigged with 20″ shaft propped motors (not jet motors). These guys can run in 3″ of water. I have a few up by the Chippewa flowage and Platteville and WI Rapids areas. They really liked the boats.

There are both tunnel hulls for prop motors and jet motors. The prop tunnel is the deeper of the 2. Cant remember the name of the company that makes both tunnel hulls. Most companies just make one. If I remember right you gain about 3″s in motor height running a tunnel hull with a prop tunnel.

wasn’t there a fairly new classified post for one of these boats? maybe that guy could shed some light on the subject.

Thanks for the input so far…keep it coming.

I would be getting one with a prop. I think the Jet would be a problem in the slop?

I am sorta looking for something with a side council and a motor of 50hp or higher. If you know of any please contact me.

Haywood. I have a 17′ Lowe that has the small tunnel. I run a 20″ Yamaha prop. Runs threw 3″ less water than no tunnel. Works great for me.
