Looking for some help on jack plates. I Don’t have much information about jack plates and the benifit for my boat. My Ranger 619 seens to be a little hard to get the bow out of the water when running with more then a half tank of fuel. I have tried different props and the four blade cyclone I have now seems to be the best over the three blades I have tried. So I have been told a jack plate will help get the bow out of the water when running.
What kind of jack plate is a good brand?
What size is the best to get? 6 inch,8 inch,or 10 inch
How hard are jack plates to install?
Where is the best place to buy one at?
and is there a place to buy used jack plates or does someone have one laying around in there garage taking up space?
    Thanks Matt

Best advice I can give you is call Ranger, they are awesome to talk with, if you have a question, go to the source .

I suspect if you do want to add a jackplate you’ll be limited to a 6 inch plate, it seems that’s as big a Ranger allows on most models. Even at that most boats can handle a 6 inch plate with stock cables, otherwise you need some new cables. Hydraulic is going to be the best overall preformer, letting you adjust it as you need. Overall I don’t think they are too hard to install, if you can find a good way to lift and remove the motor.

I do have a 10 inch manual jackplate laying around in my garage, I’m probably not going to put on my boat, Ranger says I can only run a 6 inch model…

Have you tried running a tempest prop? how about customizing a prop? I going to decide what I want to do with the jackplate, option on my boat, I really want to runa tempest prop and see what I get out if it, I get a lot of people to reccomend them for good lift and overall preformance.

I would strongly suggest you search out some people who know props and get your boat proped correctly.

What kind of motor are you running?

What year 619 is it? What engine are you running? Some of the earlier models had a more forward gas tank; making it harder to get the nose up.

    Guys
I have a 04 boat and a 2002 non ho 200hp evinrude. The boat will run 50-53 mph/5400-5700 rpm with a 21p 4 blade cyclone. 51-54 mph/4900-5400 rpms with a 23p cyclone 4 blade. 50-52 mph/5400-5600 with a 22p raker 3 blade. Motor is mounted thrid hole up. Ranger has no info for 04 619 with a jack plate, alot of info without a jack plate and they suggest the props I have. These are the props I have had on the boat so far. Have not tryed a tempest on the boat. With two guys/gear and full fuel the boat will plow water some what. trying to get the bow up and increase mileage some would be great. With a light load of fuel any of these props will bring the bow out of the water great and my speed will increase a bunch and gas mileage is much better. I have seen 56-57 mph with the 23p cyclone with a lighter fuel load.
As for getting a prop worked over, the river is ruff on the props where I fish. You try to watch out for things but, the sand bars always seem to win this fight! seems like money down the drain, maybe I’m wrong on this, just hard to spend the money on something you know wont last.
Just trying to find a good way to get boat to handle better and get the bow out of the water with a full fuel load.
Has anyone with a ranger fisherman boat tryed a jack plate on your rig?
Did it help any? or it a waste of money?
    thanks for any more help.

I don`t think the Tempest will help it is desighned to be more of a fit all prop mid range cruising prop. Normally the high rake props afford the most bow lift the Tempest lacks in alot of rake.

On the props you described did you change diameters? Mercury did some testing dropping diameter and increasing pitch with some amazing results on cetains hulls. Some hulls were faster, better MPG, and cruising speed at same rpm gained. Some they changed were a 1/4 inch less diameter and went up two on the pitch.

There is alot more to proping a boat then we realize.

I have contacted Eric Olson on the stet-up and prop for this combo – he has the most Ranger/Evinrude knowledge out there and will either have him post or I will post his reply. He should also have some good advice on the effects of a jackplate on this combo.

I have ran a jackplate on a 621 – 3 of the last four years. First year I had a manual 6″, last year a hydralic 8″ from Bob’s Machine Shop and this year I will have a hydralic 8″ from Bob’s again. For that year of the 619 the jackplate should provide a significant improvement to your issues. I highly recommend the hydralic as you can adjust instantly and can fine tune for hole shot, mid-range, top end, heavy/light load, etc. In additon, now you can raise the motor up 6″ when you put the boat on the trailer and (for me) reduced the number of dinged props from different launches throughout the year.

    Good luck.

I asked around and here’s the prop recommendation:
Th best prop fr this boat is a 21 Rev 4 as it really works well w/ that combo.

    Good luck!

    Guys
Thanks for all the help and advice with this problem. I think I will get a Jack plate soon and see what happens. Also got a couple of more tips to use the merc rev 4 21p prop. This props seem to work well on ranger fisherman boats for others. Just need to find a good deal on these items now. I will post my results later.
    thanks Matt
