Go with the VX-1. I have the predecessor, Zercom Colorpoint, and still use it everytime out.

There are a ton of Vexilar FL-8 out there. Very good unit and one that I am reluctant to switch from. I really like mine and has worked very well in every situation. You can’t really go wrong with any of the brands. I mention the FL-8 because you can find them used for 150-200 bucks at the most.

    Goosebuster,

I have a Marcum VX-1 and I can say that I have been completely happy with it. I actually bought this unit from Scott Steil. It comes with a new warranty to boot. If you price these at a Gander Mountain they run about $249.00. I was able to try friends Vex FL-8 and that friend not wishes he had gone Marcum. Those are the only two units I have tried, but they are both in your price range. I am sure either one with work though.

    Good Luck

I just bought a used vx1 off another fishing site for $175. I used it all day saturday and was very happy with it. I used to be a big fl-8 fan until I used this unit. The battery seemed to last longer also.
