I have a old 73 Naden 16′ alum v-hull boat. Right now it has a 7.5 mercury on it. It’s rated for 35hp. Ive been looking at getting a new motor this season, at least 25-35hp elctric start. How much does the newer motors weigh? I believe the boats rating is something like 1300lbs with people gear and motor. Id hate to buy something to heavy and have a boat thats a** heavy. The newer motors look alot more havier then older ones.

You can find a lot of that info on-line by going to the different motor manufacturers’ websites.

For example, in the Yamaha 4-stroke series, a 20HP weighs 114 lbs. A 2-stroke 25 Hp weighs in at 104 lbs.

A Suzuki 30 HP 4-stroke weighs in at ~ 210 lbs, and the 25 HP comes in at ~ 160 lbs.

For example if you were looking at say 2-stroke Johnson motors a 9.9 or 15 hp weighs around 87 lbs. A 25 hp weighs around 120 lbs and a 40 hp weighs around 200 lbs. This should give you an idea for weight. Alot of four stoke motors weigh more. Hope this helps.

    Thanks, Bill
