Mercury Power Trim Problem

For about a month my 150 XR2 Mercury’s power trim will sometimes “click” the trim solenoid, but not raise or lower the motor. This has happened with both the trailering switch and the on-throttle switch and happens most often when I’m lowering the motor, but occasionally when I’m raising it. Usually it works fine, but today it was REALLY balky and it looked like I might have to idle about a mile upstream to the ramp before it finally engaged.

Anybody have a similar experience or have ideas what to check to troubleshoot this?

    Thanks!

Sounds like your tilt trim relays are going bad. There is one for the up, and one for the down.

Thanks Dave, I’ll check the relays.

I had thought possibly the trim motor was going bad because I could hear the relay “click” but it makes more sense that the relay connections are going bad since it is usually has the problem with tilting down.

    Thanks again!
