Mono or Super Line on line counter?

What is your choice for pulling cranks or spinners with line counter reels, mono or super line? I am about to respool with Fireline 10-12# test and give it a try. I suspect my planer boards will have a tough time on the super line without wrapping the line around the clip a few times.

    20# stealth works great

I’d use the superline. Mono has it’s place for a few applications for me but I’ll use a superline 95% of the time. You’ll be able to read you cranks much better when trolling weedy areas. If you get some weeds on give the rod a few good rips and a lot of times the weeds will come right off. Also you’ll get better action out of your cranks. You can pump the rod and since there is no stretch you’ll know your lure is pausing and jumping forward like a wounded baitfish.
I’ve been using Fireline for several years but I’m going to give the Spiderwire Stealth a try next time I have to respool. As much trolling as I do anymore I’m finding the Fireline seems to be wearing out fast.

I’d also go with 20lb stealth, and if you’re going to be pulling lots of boards and are using off shore boards you can upgrade the front clip to the orange clip planer board clips

I’m using church boards and just had to adjust the tension screw a bit and haven’t had a problem.

I use the OR-18 snapper release shown here. You can pick them up at Fleet Farm.

I use fire line on my line counters to. But, I use a mono backer against the reel. The fireline, since it does not stretch or shrink, can slip on the reel in colder weather. Like what was stated above, you can feel if your cranks are running true and get better depths out of them also.

D Man, If trolling using the superlines make sure to loosen your drag on the reel since due to the no stretch properties you will tear the fishes mouth and it will come unbuttoned often bringing it back to the boat. Then once the fish strikes hold the rod up (NO PUMPING) and slowly tighten the drag and reel up the fish. Just a recommendation that was taught to me and has saved me some headaches.

At this point I will try the Fireline over my mono backer, I figure at least 200 ft of fireline on each reel should do the job.

I’ve used both with Offshore boards without any issues. I use the Snapper release on the front and tighten the screw down so my Fireline won’t slip through….works great!!!
