135 OPTI

I have a 03 mercury 135 opti and have been useing it for trolling alot on mille lacs and it seems to be smoking alot. I was wondering if this is normol for this motor?

I have a 01 150 opti and the only time it smokes is when its cold outside, like canada in may. Mine isn’t the only one smoking, it seems normal in cold weather. Just wondering if you remember if it was smoking when it was warm outside. I do a lot of trolling in canada and I always run it in the top rpm’s every so often, burn the carbon out.

I agree it more water vapor/steam than oil smoke. Especially when it’s cold out. Your motor will run at 96-98 degrees on plane (approx 3500-4500 rpms) It will run at 156-164 trolling depending on water temp. Its more prone to steam when trolling.

yep agreed… I have a 150 opti and anytime the temp dips down you get the steam. Next time take a look and if its just steam you should be ok.
