Do any of you guys know how long Shimano has a warranty on a stradic. I have one that I am not happy with at all. It reels very tough for a half a dozen cranks and then it will reel fine and then back tough again. Not sure the problem or if any of you have had similar problems. I own a bunch of Symetres and have never had a problem. I thought with a higher end reel like this, I should not be having this problem. P.S. the reel was bought in March from Cabelas and I have the receipt. Thanks in advance for any advice or knowledge.

Nick,
I got a Stradic this spring and have used it all year. It has been flawless. Something is wrong with yours. Don’t know about the warranty, but I would hope Cabela’s would replace it. Good Luck. When you get one that works right, you will really like the reel.September 19, 2007 at 9:41 am #609321Nick – My expereince at Cabela’s in Owatonna tells me they would exchange it no questions asked. Make sure you tell them it’s defective so it goes back to the company and not back to the bargain cave. Kurt

September 19, 2007 at 11:30 am #609331Had the same problem with a stradic of mine. I had fished all day in the rain and it got soaked. I took it apart, cleaned it and oiled it with lucas oil and it works flawless again.
September 19, 2007 at 12:12 pm #609337I have a Stradic here that came outte year they were introduced.. never have I had a problem like that. THe clutch started slipping once in a while in about the 10th year.. it just needed some cleaning.
That reel is still under warranty I believe if you got it this year. Exchange would be easiest.. shimano isnt the best to deal with on the phone.

That is what the “Bargin Cave” is for. Take back merchandice that has been returned for whatever reason and in need of a slight repair and offer a discount to the next consumer who purchases it. People should be aware that items purchased in the “cave” are typically items of this nature. Once again buyer beware.
On to the Stradic, I would take the spool off and see if it needs a cleaning or a shot of the gear lube that was supplied to you when the reel was purchased. Otherwise with a reciept no questions asked Cabelas should take back this reel, heck if they are out of the old reels you might get the new Stradic as a replacement!!!
September 19, 2007 at 5:12 pm #609451Cal – your telling me that the Bargain Cave is a place for defective equipment? Now I’ve bought a LOT of stuff in my day and I don’t know of one company yet that doesn’t appreciate knowing they have defective equipment. If I owned a company I sure would appreciate having defective gear returned so I could investigate the problem and prevent future dissatisfied customer service. (Your way of thinking sure makes me glad I don’t buy stuff from the Cave…..) Thanks for the heads up! Kurt

I don’t think Cal is trying to say that defective returns end up in Cabela’s Bargain Cave. But he is right about much of the content inside that area. I see “trade-ins”, used stuff, and items with a missing part like a button or a latch or assembly screws. “Scratch and Dent”. Reels are worn but not defective. A rod may have the tip missing but it’s not defective. I’ve also seen things that flat did’t work and wondered to myself, “Who buys this stuff?”.
Cabela’s is apparently using the Bargain Cave for “petty cash” instead of destroying the goods and settling for the write-off. Sometimes a retailer can receive full credit for the item but the manuafacturer doesn’t want to deal with repair, replacement, or parting. At this point, the retailer usually destroys the item so it’s of no use. But sometimes, if the item is still close to having value, they’ll “Blue Light Special” the item.
Example: A Plano 777 tacklebox that has a top lid that’s not correctly snapping closed. The mold is warped and there’s nothing we can do about it. Plano will credit the retailer and tell them to destroy it. However, the retailer may see the value of the rest of the box and sell it for a few bucks as “useable but not perfect”. It’s extra money…….. for nothing. Some companies simply will not allow this and follow up on their retailers practices but others realize it’ll cost them far more to mess with it than to just leave it alone and give the retailer a little freedom to do this. If it’s an ongoing issue, they’re going to want to investigate the retailers claims but if it’s a non-frequent thing, they tell the retailer to get rid of it and mark the item as destroyed. If the box was $40.00, they store may mark it all the way down to $20.00, put a genereric code to it so it doesn’t mess up inventory and voila! “Bargain”!
Cabela’s has more “junk” in their Bargain Cave than I’ve ever seen from any other retailer I’ve ever visited. However, it’s also loaded with clearance and discontinued items so it’s always worth a peek.
If you’re going to the cave, keep the good eye open!

Wow, thanks for the new perspective. Amazing how many times I can be “re-educated” in a day….
I’ll continue to pass as I’ve seen too many pieces of junk in that Cave. Kurt
September 19, 2007 at 10:42 pm #609562Back to the reel here. From what you describe it sounds like you have a flat spot in the bearings. I have one reel at this time that has this problem. BUT it came up after 4 years of use. Now remember my use of them are much differnt that most. All reels will get wore out sometime but yours shouldnt be already. I myself would just take it back to cabelas and exchange it.
Like mentioned before you might even get the new models.September 19, 2007 at 10:45 pm #609563I got a Shimano Corsair used off E Bay used it for better than a year then the anti reverse started acting up. I took it in to get it fixed the guy told me Shimano will replace it with a brand new Corvalus or I could pay to fix the Corsair. Was a tough choice And yes I did tell him I got it used off E Bay. I own alot of Shimano reels some going on 12 years old and other than the 1 Corsair never a problem. I’m in fact thinking of a Stradic for my new St Croix walleye rod.
