Question for Lowrance users

I want to pull the trigger on ordering a new unit today if possible and have one quick question for those that use Lowrance GPS/ sonars.

I am looking at either the LCX-28HD or the LCX-27C. My question concerns the hard drive on the 28 model.

For those of you with units with hard drives, how beneficial do you think having it in the unit is?

For those that run units without the hard drive, do you wish that you had one?

Also, the 28 comes preloaded with lake maps, if I were to go this route, would you still recommend buying the Lake Master chip?

    Thanks
    Chad

I’ve got the 25c. I wouldn’t use the HD feature anyway. The LM WI chip I have is so detailed I can’t believe it. Gregory

I would pass on the Hard Drive also you will be using your Lakemaster MN and Navionics Cards almost exclusively anyway.

The LCX 27 already has the pre loaded lakes in the unit also.
Save yourself the $200 bucks and buy a Lakemaster chip, then take out the wife/girlfriend for a nice dinner to celebrate this purchase with the other 100 bucks, or just spend it on tackle.

The LCX 27 has all the memory any of us fishermen will ever need. The main reason why Lowrance built the units with a hard drive is for costal waters where charter boats and captians have the ability to save a ton of data. I don’t think most fishermen in the upper midwest will ever need that kind of storage.

    Just my .02 worth.

My Buddy runs the 28 with the hard drive and says that he uses the Hard drive. I would guess you might as well get it. Your spending that much money whats a few more bucks. I guess it depends on how much you think you will use it

Chad, I got your order this afternoon. I’ll ship it tomorrow and you may have it on Friday. Sometimes it only takes one day but there are times it will take two. I’m hoping you’ll have it for the weekend. Either way, I am sure you’ll love this fishfinder. Thanks a bunch for your support!

Edit: I see you selected overnight shipping. We’ll send ‘er overnight so it should be there Friday (shipping was already done today so it goes out Thursday).

I have the 28 but only because the 27 wasn’t available when my boat was built. I don’t use the HD and would get the 27 if I was buying new again just to save a few bucks.
