I aquired an 850 merc. The motor is in great shape and I’m going to play with it a bit. However I need to replace the prop. (Or get it repaired).

Question 1: Where would I go to find out what the original size prop was for this motor?

Question 2: Can repair shops actually fix a 1″ chunk taken out of a prop? Do they ad in metal or what?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

To get the part number for the prop, I’d call any Mercury dealer listed in the yellow pages. Have your serial number ready when you call. Once you have that number, you can order the prop from that dealer, http://www.wercurymarine.com or Cabelas. If you want to try and find a used one, try http://www.twincityoutboard.com

Any good prop repair shop can fix a missing chunk. I use Marks’s prop shop in Forrest lake.

    Good luck,
    Jon J.

Thanks Jon….I’ll call Twin City Outboard. I also know where a few prop repair places are close to my area by Hastings. I’ll look them up. As for fixing a prop, is there anything “I” need to be aware of, or is it just the basics of repair? I’ve never had this done before and I don’t want to dump money into a prop to get it repaird, only to have it fail later down the water….

The place I deal with will give you a firm price, not a quote. So no suprises when you go to pick it up. The prop should perform good as new.
