Had a chance to try out the Folbe Sat, I must say they are very nice, I will be upgrading sometime in the future.

I like the lift out style of operation.

Thanks Eric for a test drive

It was a good time out on the river sat. Glad you liked the rod holders, they are very nice.

We will have to make it out again when the fishing is a little better.

Had a fun time even though the fish were not jumping in the boat

It had to be tuff with all the boat traffic.

Moreyes? That was you in Eric’s boat? Had I known I would have come over and harassed you.

So these Folbes can not dislodge your pole even if a Flathead puts a violent THUMPING on your setup?

Would you feel safe tight lining with these holders?

In my limited use in Brian K’s rig, cat fishing with these rod holders, I would not have any reservation at all about a rod getting ripped out by a fish. I’ve been a Scotty rod holder guy my whole life, thinking they were the best bang for the buck, but I have to admit, I like these better!

No…….No fish is going to rip the rod out of these holders, when they are “set”.

At $29. bucks out of Everts, I wouldn’t and don’t have a problem closing the bail and circle hooking flats or Lake Sturgeon. In fact, these are made by Joel (Slack Line) out of Washington State with White Sturgeon in mind.

I’ve kept my Scotty’s for when I sell my boat…

Will these work for trolling and will these fit into the Scotty socket/base?

    Francis,

You’ll have to replace the base…but the screw holes are the same. If you have a flush mount that you are replacing, the large hole will need to be filed just a hair.

I’ve never used them for trolling of course…Crosby Stick, Chappy or Dean could answer that better than I. Although Slack line uses them for salmon…

Next time you’re down to Everts…put one on an go. It takes all of 5 minutes to get you set up.

Ps When I tried them out, I used a surface mount. It screwed in right where my flush mount was.

Francis………Yes…..They are the best holders I’ve found for trolling applications. And Brian is correct as for the holes are the same for the side mounts.

These are nice holders. We will be switching over to them eventually. Scottys will be moved to the cabin on the pontoon and these will be our new “serious fishing” holders.

Chris, I will be switching over soon as well. Dad just picked up a pile of them at Dakotamart in Pierre. They had them on sale for $15 a piece.

For those of you that currently have these holders flush mounted, what sized hole am I looking at drilling to accomodate the holder? I have a 1 1/4 bit and am trying to figure out if I need to go out looking for something larger.

    Thanks

Hey Chad, 1 1/2 inch will work on thin , but the mount has a push button release lock and 1 5/8 inch would be best for clearence of the lock..Or just the 1 1/2 inch and file a little on two sides for clearence would be fine also…Sorry for hiding guys just been busy and I havent had much time to relacks….

If I hadn’t had holes drilled already, I would have the surface mount bases on my boat for the side mounted holders. They would have given me a bit more height and I didn’t like drilling big holes then and I’m still not fond of it. My personal preferance is showing for sure.

You really don`t need a regular drill bit. Hole saw like is used to drill locksets, works for either fiberglass or aluminum.
