Anyone have any insite on the Lowrance Depth Finders, as far as LCX vs. the standard color? Worth the extra price?
Any particular models that have the best bang for the buck?

IMO the color is definitely worth the extra price. I don’t have any experience with the LCX models, but I have a 332c on the console and 102c on the bow. For the money, I don’t think you can beat the new 520c combination sonar GPS. If I could do it all over again, I would spend the extra dough and have 2 GPS units linked together since most of my fishing is structure related. There is a ton of great info on this site as far as Lowrance units go so have a look around in past links.

If you have any specific question regarding my experiences with color versus grayscale feel free to shoot me a PM

If you can swing the cash the large screen colors units are outstanding (LCX-27C etc.).

Wade – I have decided on a larger screen model. Is there a definate advantage of going with the 28 w/ HD over the 27? Also would you recommend the 50/200 ducer or will the 200 do the job fishing the river and the big pond?

    Thanks

Just to chime in….unless you fish Lake Superior, there isn’t a need for a 50/200 transducer and as for a 28 over a 27. I haven’t seen the need for the HD’s. Just save that money and buy a LakeMaster Chip…

Chad, For freshwater fishing, I much prefer the single frquency, 200khz transducer. The HD units have there place but it depends on your needs. They offer contour mapping of the USA including the Great Lakes, so they are handy if you travel to fish, or you fish the Great Lakes. They also have extra hard drive space for storing data or recording. Either way you go, I would suggest getting a Lakemaster or Navionics map chip for the areas you fish most often, The detail and accuracy is better on those map chips for most waters. Feel free to email me if you need help too.
