The last bunch of FSH5-M Frenzies I bought, I have been having problems with the rear hooks pulling out. Just curious if anyone else is haveing this problem. Don`t seem to be having this issue with the no. 7`s.

I have this problem a lot, normally I run Rapala’s SR5’s but with how cheap these frenzies have been I figured I’d try some. I have about 8-10 in my box and have lost 3 or so to the back hooks pulling out on a snag etc. I’ve also noticed that if I get a bigger northern etc they tend to bend up the hooks so bad that you pretty much need to retire the lure. I know my dad has had many similar issues with these as well.

It happened to me this summer on one of mine. The lure was about 4 year old though and I didn’t think much of it.

Both of these rear hooks pulled out on small fish that were hooked only by the rear hook lifting them in the boat.

Tom, I haven’t had your problem, primarily because I don’t have any frenzies in my boat. However, I think your issues point to some potential reasons that these lures are so inexpensive: inferior components or workmanship, perhaps?

Lately the Frenzies for me have outfished the SR5`s 4 to 1. Trolling and casting as stated in other posts they are allmost to light to cast except in the right conditions.

I can speak to the effectiveness of the frenzys as well. After mid-june (higher water temps seemed to play a role in the effectiveness of the frenzys) the frenzys greatly outfished the shad raps for me in my boat.

As for durability… they come up a little short in comparison to some of the better made cranks on the market. You will need to tune after nearly every snag or fish landed.

I have had the exact same problem, but with the #7’s. They seem to pull out fairly easily, so I’m looking at replacing the hooks with something more durable. Any suggestions?

I agree with you James on that one. One good thing is they tune easily. I have run them up to 3 MPH when ever I get over that they can be fickle.

I’ve only had a couple that couldn’t be fixed. But after enough use that happens to all cranks. Overall I’d give the flickers high marks… I just wish they were built a little better.

I can live with the hooks that are on the Frenzies. By replacing the hooks, it is not fixing the problem of the wires pulling out of the bait the hooks are attached to.

I am not sure how to address the problem. I may try and add some super glue where the wire for the hooks attach into the body.

Side note I see Mills Fleet Farm are at $2.49 for Frenzies so I picked up a bunch more.

At times frenzies out fish all other cranks in my box, gotta love them even if they aren’t the highest quality crank out there, I have not had your problem though to date….might want to carefully apply a layer or two of epoxy around the metal loop that holds the hook to strengthen this area….

Just started fishing these lures a few weeks back and noticed the same problems you guys are talking about. Had a 28″ eye inhale one. Thought there was going to be problems getting the rear treble out then it just popped out. Only after releasing the fish did I notice it was the rear treble that came loose from the lure and was still in the fish. Had plenty of problems trolling these in higher flows over the rocks. I can see how these lure could out fish others very easy. The trick seem to be getting them to run properly and then stay together. It would be nice to see Berkley get there stuff together on these lures.

Frenzy is not the only crank with this problem I have had it happen on the new Rapala Shad X-Rap twice. I have only used two of them and both have had the rear trebble pull out. Not good for a $7 crank. They do catch fish but should last longer then these have.

I gave them my first real test up on the St. Louis this past weekend and was very pleased. I fished them pretty hard trolling against and with a relatively swift current over rock using spiderwire stealth and had plenty of cases in which a hook could have ripped free from the bait when getting slammed by a fish or hung up in the rocks…they held solid. Also spent a fair amount of time pitching shorelines for smallies and had relatively few problems with them running out of tune after smacking into rock or timber. Not sure if it made a difference, but all of my baits had the triple grip hooks (verses the straight trebles). I’d imagine the Berkely probably uses the same process to attach them to the bait, but ya never know. Most importantly, they caught fish (smallies, walleyes and northerns)

I used Frenzy 7’s almost exclusively at a Lake Oahe tournament last month. They outfished every shad or minnow rap we tried during the two days pre-fishing, and outfished them by a mile. I’m now kicking myself for waiting this long to try these baits.

I had one bait that literally caught 30+ fish over three days w/out a single glitch. Not bad for $1.79. I also have not had to tune a single #7 coming out of the package.

5’s might be a completely different story, but those 7’s are a sweet lure at an awesome price.

Been giving the 7s a try on the river the last few weeks. Nice lures. Havent had any problems with hooks falling out like the 5s. The sevens seem to dive fairly fast to when pitching them. Had another walleye completely in hail one again yesterday. Need to buy more of these. The colors are great on these lures.
