Is the Freedom map card usable in H2O C and is it good definition? Using handheld for geocache and hunting also fishing. Thanx.

Freedom map will work on the H2OC. Freedom map is just Mapcreate that is already loaded on a data chip.
I would probably get Mapcreate (the package) before getting Freedom Maps, unless you don’t have a PC. And even if you don’t have a PC, I would suggest Lowrance Fishing Hotspots Pro before Freedom Maps, becuase FHS Pro will have much better lake detail than Freedom Maps or Mapcreate. The advantage of FHS Pro is that it has decent lake data, but it also includes the Mapcreate data for the specified region.
Where will you do most of you hunting, geocaching, and fishing? That’ll help us determine which option would be best for you. Also, do you have a computer at home (I assume most people do but some people are only able to access IDA at work).
August 10, 2007 at 1:24 am #598718Wade, I have Nav north but was needing more road stuff. I will be using it from mid Minn down to southern Iowa both on rivers, lakes and roads. I have a PC w/card reader stuff just not sure what to do to get Mapcreate w/out the disc or whatever is needed. Thanx, R.D.

A greatly-enhanced and affordable angler edge in new, superbly-detailed electronic mapping with increased coverage, preloaded in a choice of four regional plug-&-play mapcards. Collectively, that’s coverage for 3,260 America’s premier inland fishing lakes with depth contours, with over 480 lakes featuring Fishing Hot Spots® data and detail. Each card also features MapCreate™ Series-7 urban and rural land/water detail including roads, highways, landmarks, cities, searchable Points-of-Interest database, and much more, for near-and off-water navigation. Each a big help on a 512MB MMC/SD memory card, that’s an incredible value. Compatible with most Lowrance models with memory card slots.
Note that this has the same Mapcreate data that the Freedom Map has, PLUS you get the FHS data. They both run about $100 and cover MN and Iowa, so I would definately get the FHS Pro before the Freedom Map. I’ve got a North FHS Pro card for $90 if you want one.
Unless you want to be able to use Mapcreate on your PC, I would go with the FHS Pro North chip. If you want to be able to use Mapcreate on your PC for some reason, you could get the Mapcreate Accessory Pack instead. It also runs about $100, so the pricing is similar regardless of what you choose.
Mapcreate allows you to manage waypoints if needed. It also comes with a Lowrance data card reader, if you’d ever need one. Mapcreate comes with the card reader and a blank data card. With mapcreate, you choose the area you want to have mapped, and then you download it onto the data card. I do have Mapcreate in stock as well.
Basically, if you’re in to “easy”, I would just get the FHS Pro chip. You’ll plug it in to the GPS and go!
