They are clearing out Avids. Supposedly St. Croix is replacing with different unit. Anyways the Avids are priced about the same as premiers. I saved $50 on a rod yesterday. at SW in Woodbury.

I was st the plant in June…from the Avid level on up all models are essentially being upgraded…The “new” Avid will have the carbon quality and AST design per last years Tourney series and so forth…
DSchussPosts: 59August 8, 2007 at 3:42 am #597998The Legend Tournament Casting Series are also reduced. Bought an Avid Casting 70MM on Monday and a similar Legend, casting 69MLF would have been $150. Heck of a price for a $220 rod.
August 8, 2007 at 12:38 pm #598063I stopped into the SW Coon Rapids store last night and they were no signs and the csr didn’t know about a sale. Still marked at $160.00. Maybe they are only on sale at certain stores?
August 8, 2007 at 2:45 pm #598121My understanding is that St. Croix has lifted the pricing guidelines on select rods. However, the descision to offer a discount is up to the retailers so not all stores will be offering price breaks.
August 8, 2007 at 4:14 pm #598163Both the Legend tournament and Avid lines are being upgraded for next year, which is likely why these rods are on sale. The legend tournament will go to split rear grip no front grip, and the Avid will now have the IPC and ART technology.

The new Legend sounds like a great rod! I like that concept!
August 9, 2007 at 6:45 pm #598607Here is a link to those new rods.
http://www.tackletour.com/reviewicast07rodspg6.htmlAugust 9, 2007 at 8:58 pm #598663Here’s a question some of you guys may be able to answer for me… I have three Avids that snapped this year that are sitting around, waiting to be mailed back to St. Croix. Should I hold on to these for a while to ensure I get the new Avid models, or will I get the discontinued model regardless of when I send these back??
Either way, you gotta love the lifetime warranty on these rods!
August 12, 2007 at 11:20 pm #599271Once they run out of the old version what choice will they have – the trick would be guessing how long that might take – guessing they aren’t going to sit on a big inventory just waiting for people to break them… so if you have a bit of patience I would assume you’ll receive the new version.
ChucklesChadPosts: 32August 16, 2007 at 3:24 am #600448I don’t believe they have much for inventory on the “old” Avid Rods, a few styles have been on backorder for awhile. As for what’s new with the new Avid Series….IPC. ART (advanced reinforcement technology) is not on the new Avid Series Rods. With cork costs going up and a unique style of balancing with the Bass Rods, Tournament Bass Rods have a new look, otherwise same blank.
As for just breaking your rods to get new ones….the factory knows the breaking points on their rods and you would hope a little honesty would hold someone back from breaking one for a new one. Besides, by breaking rods just for new ones will only put a burden on the company, therfore raising prices in the future for everyone……..
August 16, 2007 at 11:59 am #600492I just received a replacement Avid for a broken one I sent in about 2 weeks ago. They were out of the model I sent in at the time, but apparently, they got what I needed in.
I don’t think it’s the new style. How can I tell? But regardless, it’s a new rod
August 16, 2007 at 4:44 pm #600606Breaking rods to gets a new one. Who is to say that the new Avids are better then the old ones. If you get a new one you just might wished you had the old one.
August 16, 2007 at 5:06 pm #600609Just to make it clear, I did not break a rod to get a new one. It snapped when I set the hook on a 12″ bass.

Just to make it clear… 12″ bass does not equal a 30# Flathead.
August 16, 2007 at 8:41 pm #600674Leave my fish OR as you call them bait alone. You do not see me fishing for those slimy things you call fish, do you
August 28, 2007 at 4:00 am #603749I am not sure how someone could have read into my post that I was encouraging anyone to break rods to trade up… I was responding to the guy with three broken rods already – and mentioned that stocks are likely low and that if he waits just a bit here to have his rods replaced that he would likely have the newer version… the cost of replacement rods are built into these high dollar rods when we purchase them – that\\\’s why they cost so much initially. I certainly don\\\’t advocate breaking rods… wouldn\\\’t be good for us rod-building types either. Either way – enjoy your fishing – new St. Croix\\\’s or old (I love my old green blanked LE and I wouldn\\\’t give it up for a newer one!) Chuckles
