    I have the Berkley scale and like it alot. Easy to use and stores in my tackle bag real easy. I think it is good for up to 50 lbs. Thanks, Bill

    Here are my 2 cents worth on the digital scales…..

    Both are excellent scales that should last a lot of years. I have had the Berkely for as long as I can remember. Purchased one the first year they came out.

    I’m pretty sure the newer Rapala scales are updated versions of the old Normark. (Normark and Rapala are the same corp.)

    Here is the big difference in these scales. The Berkely displays weights in pounds and 1/10 of a pound (or 10 units) and the Normarks display weights in Pounds and Ounces (or 16 units).

    So, what does that mean? Well, the Normarks are little bit more accurate because they can break a pound down into more units. It also makes them a lot more user friendly and easier to understand. My brother also has the Berkely and if he weighs a fish that comes out as 5.4 on the scale, he will say that fish weighed 5 pounds, 4 ounces when actually that fish weighs 5 pounds 6.4 ounces!! Confusing!

    I have to carry a conversion chart in my wallet to correct my brothers line of thinking from time to time. Seeing the chart helps him understand what I’m trying to explain!

    10th of a pound = Ounces
    .1 = 1.6
    .2 = 3.2
    .3 = 4.8
    .4 = 6.4
    .5 = 8.0 (8 ounces is a half pound)
    .6 = 9.6
    .7 = 11.2
    .8 = 12.8
    .9 = 14.4

    Make sense?
