i bought a Sony Cybershot last year and i am really happy with it. I got it for 50% off at radioshack, 100 bucks i think. 6 mega pixels, 3x zoom, and with a 20$ memory card it hold almost 2000 pics. If ya can wait till a few days b/f xmas or after, all the prices on camera’s dropped like a rock. Prices on point and shoot digitals have come down a lot; I think it’s because most phones have cameras now. hope this helps

Definately do some research online first. CNET.com is a good plase to start, and read the user reviews of each camera if you can find them. I just bought the cannon powershot A630 8megpix for 200$ on Amazon.com. And you can buy different lenses and filters for it if you really want to spend. It rated pretty good on about every website out there, and we could not be more happy. Just remember to shop around for a good memory card also. (Especially with higher megapixl cameras). We got a sandisk ultra 2GB for like 30 bucks at amazon. Just make sure if you buy from Amazon, that you are buying from “Amazon” and not some offshoot camera store selling through them.

Yup, the camera doesn’t come with very much storage. Get the biggest card you can, it doesn’t take long and those pictures and videos add up.

I would take a look at the Sony W-55 (I think thats the one). It is a 7.2 megapixel camera that is right around your range that seems to be a good buy. As far as memory cards go my go to places to buy them on eBay, newegg, or buy.com

There is a great but overwhelming site for digital cameras it is called DPreview.com

I am a photographer and have used few “point and shoot” digital cameras- I am partial to Canon because I use them nearly every day- but this is a good one that hits your price range: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/specs/Canon/canon_a550.asp

    good luck

    I also have a Lumix, it’s a 6 mp.

    Great pictures.

With a 1 gig chip I’ve yet to run out of space.

Whatever camera you buy, get one that has image stablization.
