Lowrance 332c Networking with second 332c

I own a Lowrance 332c gps/sonar unit. Can I add a second 332c unit to my rig and network the two units? I want one to stay on GPS and the second unit to stay on sonar display. Will the second unit display sonar info and GPS info off of the first unit via the network link?

    Thanks,

Yes you can add a second unit and network the GPS to display the info on both units, not sure you’d really need that if they are right next to each other… The only real advantage I see to actually networking two units next to each other is sharing waypoints, which could be done with a SD card.

The sonar however is not on the network so if you wanted to run sonar on the other unit, you’d either need switch the cable in the back between units or another transducer mounted, or a switch that will allow you to switch which unit you want to display the sonar. (also if you mounted another transducer on the back of the boat it may not work, good or at all trying to run both at the same time.

Not to mention you’ll need some network cables and such, maybe some adaptors assuming you plan on buying a either a unit without the gps and/or transducer as a second unit. And if you were to buy a 520 (since 332 are discontinued) you’d need to adapt the networks together since the connectors have changed on the networks between the 332 and 520…. What I’m getting at is, it’s probably not a whole lot more money to buy a full 520 with the gps and everything than it’s going to be to adapt a 332 and a 520 together, and you have atleast a spare GPS module and/or transducer, which could be handy or you could sell them.

That is if you still really want to network the 2 units after all… Myself? I wouldn’t I just don’t see the need or the payoff for the extra cost and hassel.

    YMMV.

You can use NMEA 0183 (page 35 in the owner’s manual) to send GPS data from one unit to the other. That would save you the money and hassle of using LowranceNet. I run 2 520’s networked this way and leave one on sonar and run the other as GPS only. It’s easy to set up — all you need is some wire.

Yeah thats a great suggestion!, totally forgot about the other way, though it doesn’t solve any transducer issues.

I like the inexpensive solution of adding the wire between two 332Cs. My goal is to have one 332C set on GPS and the second 332C set on SONAR. I know it sounds silly, but I do not like the split-screen option because it makes each side of the screen too hard to see in bright light or when traveling at WOT or trolling. Thanks! pfg1

I don’t think two units it a bad idea at all, if you look, you’ll it’s pretty common on anyone’s boat who really serious about fishing (and has the money) I agree split screen on a 332 isn’t very good when you’re on plane.

The sonar is available on network, but it’s only a digital reading. Just set it up as an overlay on your GPS screen.
