Hey guys just started pulling cranks a lot more and was wondering what speed works best for reef runners. I am using 10-4 fireline. Also why does it seem that they all need to be tuned out of the box? thanks

I run reef runners around 2.25 to 3.5 this time of year. They are very touchy as far as tuning goes. The thing to remember about Reef Runners is that they should have a really wide semi erratic wobble. You don’t want a Reef Runner to run perfectly straight. They should sway back and fourth a good bit.

You also don’t want them to swing uncontrollably. I especially like the rip shads this time of year. The banana shaped baits can be great to, but I prefer to troll the shad style ones at higher speeds in current.

Tuning baits is a constant process with Reef Runners. Check them after every fish also. They work great but need to be tuned a lot. I prefer 1.8 to 2.3 with RR lures. I troll other cranks faster but not RR’s.
