Mercury has come to the rescue of us midsized rig fisherman. They have created the Opti in three new sizes 75,90 and 115 hsp.

    OPTIMAX MEANS SPEED

Four back-to-back years of flawless performance (and top honors) at the BASS Masters Classic®. Countless tournament wins. Endless racing victories. No wonder it’s the power of choice for more of the world’s top professional anglers. And the power you can count on for top performance.

    BUILT TO DOMINATE.

    PERFORMANCE TO THE MAX.

But there’s more to the story than just speed. Thanks to its unique 2-stage direct fuel injection process, OptiMax® can deliver an amazing 45 percent better fuel economy than traditional 2-Strokes. And all with approximately 82 percent lower emissions, so you get quiet, smoke-free operation. Which is why OptiMax continues to be the power more pros demand.

OptiMax also provides reliable turn-key starts, misfire-free running, instant throttle response – for more control and maneuverability – and low idle speed – for easier shifting, trolling and docking.

Do the new optimax’s cost more than 4 strokes?

I got my first look at the 225 four stroke from Mercury a couple weeks ago. Can you believe it was on the back of a pontoon boat. New shape on the couling(sp?) Alot like what you see above. I always thought pontoons were for cruising and relaxing, not racing across the lake. It was a big pontoon, but holy cow.

Very smart move on Mercury’s part to make your mid-range motors.Optimax motors are awesome.I run a 2002 Merc 2-stroke on my boat and it’s a gas hog!!About 3.5-4.5 mpg is all I get out of mine.If I had the funds I would go with the 135 Opti on mine.A good friend of mine has a 2003 150 Opti on his Lund and it’s a great motor. As far as price goes I would say they will be at least as much as your 4-strokes if not more.

When I was pricing out engines this year, the Direct Injection engines were always more expensive than the comparable 4 strokes…
