I am at a point of a dilemma. I am going to purchase a new motor. I am looking hard at a new Evinrude 90, Tiller. Now here is the problem, Do I buy now and get the V4 with the Ficht Ram Injection. Or wait for one of the new 90 E-TEC, that to my understanding is a inline 3. according to Evinrude the E-TEC is to be the smoothest, quietest, and most economic motors made with power to spare. What should one do

    Thanks for your thoughts

I won’t reccommend either way. That’s entirely your choice, but this is what I would do if I was interested in a new motor of the evinrude brand, or any brand for that matter; I would stay away from the e-tec motor for at least a year. Never seems to fail when a new and improved product is introduced it seems to take a year or so of being on the water and having the urine run out of it by several operators to find and get the bugs worked out. No matter how much testing is done at the factory and on the water by engineers, the operating public is the best measure of reliability and quality. They will always find problems that the engineers can’t find or refuse to believe exist.
After all that, I still hope it didn’t come across as a recommendation.

I would agree with Herb. Buy something that has at least a year of history. My last two auto purchases have been a first year model. I’ve had rather poor luck with these. Each one of those have had better success with the next years model. As for which motor? Your guess is as good as mine. I’m sure there are people with much more informed opinions than me.
