I need to put a new set of spark plugs in my 02 Mercury 50 hsp 2 stroke…Is there truly a better plug than another?

I only use ngk spark plugs.
the Champion brand that most auto parts stores push have fouled on me in the past. I will say that is was only when I had an old carb merc though.

Go with the NGK. I have had good luck using this place. They are located in Canada and the shipments take a while to get thru customs, but the low price is worth the wait.

    Ecnook

I have personally had better luck with Champions then NGK. In my personal expeirence the problem I have had with NGK`s are when the engine is cold and you really jump on it they want to just quit working. I have had the same problem in my 4 wheeler and my two stoke, cycles. My four wheeler was the worst. If I didn`t let it warm up at an idle for a few minutes bang the plug was dead had one in for two days before it died.

    Good Luck

I have a ’00 50 HP 2-stroke Merc., and I run NGK plugs. I can tell you this much for sure, the ones with the “Z” in the part number aren’t worth it! They are supposed to be designed to eliminate engine electrical noise. The only difference I noticed was that they cost twice as much! But when you needs plugs, and “these are the only ones we have”, what are ya gonna do….

I run only ngk in my 40 merc. No problems..ever!! I change them every spring, and sometimes in the fall if I have done alot of summertime crank trolling or rigging.

Plugs are cheap and easy to change in the garage at home. I don’t take the chance of letting fouled plugs spoil my time on the water.

I usually run the NGK’s w/o any spark plug related problems. I’ve used some of the fancy split-fire plugs in the past and did not noticed any difference to justify the money.
