Sonar stops???

I have a Lowrance LCX-15 MT that I just updated the firmware to 3.7.0 about 2 weeks ago. The update went as planned…nothing out of the ordinary. Over the weekend, the sonar would periodically “stop” scrolling. This was the first time I had noticed it doing this.

One time, the sonar stopped scrolling and continued to show 5.3 feet. Another time it would continually display 60.0 feet. The GPS continued to work while this was occurring. We were in rather stained/dirty water at the time this happened, but I know I’ve been in dirtier water before and this has not happened.

I attempted to do a soft reset, but accidentally did a hard reset but it didn’t seem to help. It would just start working again after awhile.

On a side note, when I power up the unit since this update, it always reverts back to a single map screen. Prior to this update, if I powered down with a split screen it would power up to the same split screen. Is this by design? Is there a way to change this setting?

Thanks in advance to any information on either situation.

I will be interested to know what the problem is. I have just installed two 520c’s that are doing the exact same thing. I never saw this with my 334c or 480.

I’ve had no issues at all since the 3.70 upgrade on my X-15. Nothing abnormal that I have noticed…Have you tried to re-download the upgrade?

Have you checked your voltage? I Have just upgraded my LMS 332C and encounter the same issue…additionally, the voltage reading is real low. About 10V.

I was told that it always starts in the map mode with the new upgrade.

I did re-download, just haven’t reinstalled yet. I will try that and see if the problem continues.

As I was flipping through screens, I did happen to catch that the voltage was 12v, so I don’t think that is the issue.

Anybody now of a way to change the default startup screen?

    Thanks for the responses.

Nope, thank lowrance’s stupid lawyer division. Personally I don’t mind the “lawyer” screen, just leave it where I last left it

I think he was looking for a way to always power up using the split screen?

I know mine does after the upgrade…hopefully the reload does the trick?

    Tyee,

Your X15 powers up to the split screen after the update?

Yes it does. The Full Sonar Chart is the default mode used

when the unit is turned on for the first time or when it’s reset to the factory defaults. The unit should “remember” your last settings. I haven’t noticed any performance changes after the update. Not sure if there is a menu setting to correct what you are seeing….You could download and play with the X-15 emulator or hit the manual that Lowrance offers to see if there is such a setting?

OK, anybody know how to force a reinstall of an update? I inserted the SD card and powered it on thinking the update would reinstall automatically. The update should install and the files are then deleted from the card, but neither one happens. I’m assuming this is because the unit is already at version 3.7.0.

Is there a way to force a reinstallation?

Also, my unit is starting up on the full screen map, not the full screen sonar. I change it to split screen, power down, power up, and it goes back to full screen map. Prior to this update, it would return to the same screen as when I powered down.

    Thanks.

After saving all your waypoints and routes I would do the reset to factory settings and start from scratch….this will allow you to reload the upgrade again. I would also try to re-download your 3.70 upgrade to your card in case this was corrupted in some way. If this doesn’t work your GPS may have a hardware problem. I would call Lowrance service and see IF you can get thru (may take a while).

    Good luck

Just got off the phone with Lowrance. Apparently, the default screen when you power up is now the full map. This was directed by the attorneys for some reason.

I was not having any luck reinstalling the update, so I inquired about that. What needs to be done if you are either reinstalling or reverting to a prior version is this: when you are downloading the update you must uncheck the box for the system to check for prior versions. If you uncheck this box, the Lowrance unit will force an install of the software on your card, regardless if the version on the unit is the same or newer.

I will try a reinstall tonight. If that doesn’t work, I am going to revert back to 3.6.0, then update to 3.7.0. If that doesn’t work, I will revert back to 3.6.0. If that doesn’t fix my problem, I will have to call Lowrance back to get an earlier version of the software to install. However, they don’t really like to do that, so I may be out of luck.
