Do these units require 12 Gauge wired direct to the starting battery?

Reason…. I loose my depth reading when boat is at full speed. Approx 42-48 mph It flashes and does not lock on screen is dark Transducer is level mounted down by the livewell screens on a 2005 ranger 620

A boat rigger said this would take care of the problem..

Maybe because these units draw a higher watts?

    Thanks

To me it sounds like transducer inteferecne which means transducer location issues. Where do you have it mounted??? I had similar issues but I lost it at 20 mph. I moved it and know do not have any issues! There has bene a thread or 2 on this. Perhaps someone knows and could post a link to show where others have mounted their Transducer on a Ranger boat.

EDIT I guess I should have read the whole thing before commenting. You have yours mounted where I have mine mounted. I have on of my units hooked directly to the battery & the other to the “mother” board below the Dash. I have not had an issue with either???

Dave, isn’t the transducer out of the water when the boat is planed out? I thought that was the problem?

I can get my boat up on the pad and still hold bottom, I finally lose bottom at around 57 mph, thus far my boat doesn’t go too much faster.

Is this a in hull install or a transom mount?

Mine is wired right to the dash on a little power pannel, I’d be real hard pressed to think this was the issue.

I would first try to move the transducer a bit lower and then if that didn’t help tilt it down another little notch, or you may have to move it all together, but I would think the installer had a good idea where to put it.

Here’s how mine looks on my 190 reata, Oh I am running a dual freq transducer so it may be a little different than yours, of course the boats are a little different.

Yeah it’s that close to the roller, but it had to be to work correctly, thus far I haven’t had a problem with it mounted there in the 2-3 dozen times or so I run it since the install.

I should mention it’s on my 111 too.

The wire guage is not the problem. Your transducer is losing contact with the bottom. Run the gain at 100 % when at WOT. This should tell you if the ducer is coming out of the water or not or needs to be adjusted.

    Thanks Derrrick

Yes I will try that first Gaon at 100% or I may need to move to where Cal has his.

Thanks for all the great info
