Looking for a new storage box for my crankbaits. Does anyone have any suggestions. What about the B/B tangle free boxes, does anyone use these?

    Thanks for you suggestions.

I’ve been thinking I might get a B&B myself after reading the reviews. My Plano is not the best. Here’s the reviews:

I’ve got a B&B and I like it a lot…the only downfall I have seen in it is that sometimes the hooks get caught in the plastic dividers…but the tangle free feature is all that and more… Hear is a link to a product review to the B&B Bait Box

I own a couple of B&B 96-6 crankbait boxes. For me they work just beautiful. They keep my tackle organized and untangled which is all you can ask for.

I have the B&B also and I agree with the comment on trebles getting caught in the dividers… It seems like the bottom treble on the shad raps and wally divers is particularly prone to catching between the dividers. IMHO – I think for the money they cost there should be a design change or some type of seal to eliminate the snagging.. Thinking about tearing it apart this winter and trying to seal up the divider slots…

Welcome to the message board Toad!

New tackle containers/boxes are fun to purchase but I wonder, is it a space issue or a tangle issue?

If it’s a tangle issue, a B&B box is a great purchase but I’ve managed to “tangle-free” my cranks with a $.46 cent bag of rubber bands. It allowed me to lay crank upon crank upon crank in my Plano tubs, securely, and tangle free. Every now and then I have to replaced the broken, dried bands but in two years, my overall expense has been 3 bags of bands to care for over 600 crankbaits.

However, if you just need a new box for more room, go have some fun!!!

Stillakid2 how are you using these rubber bands to keep from tangling up your crank baits? any info would be very helpful.

I use them to “tie up” the hooks. If the lure is big enough, I just tightly band the hooks together. I should take some pictures to show you some of the ways I do it…………only a half dozen or less.

But sometimes I wrap hooks and around the body and back to the hooks…………..whatever’s necessary to keep the hooks from tumbling around freely.

The points are still sticking out but amazingly enough, trebles tight to the body don’t have much chance of snagging and the downward hook has enough band around it that it tends to serve as a spacer and prevents the other downward hooks from getting into each other…………about 80-90% of the time.

When it does snag up, imagine the ease of one hook to free up, usually from another binder, when the hook doesn’t dangle! It stays in places and frees right up!

The smaller the lure the easier the tangles (cuz you can fit more in the same space) but on my worst day, I spent less than 10 seconds freeing the lure I wanted and getting the band off of it.

The only real drawback is the bands dry up over time so I keep a fresh bag handy for “re-tying” and the fact is, changing up lures often will require a few extra seconds re-tying the lure to be put back in the box. Once you get the system down, it’s not bad at all.

I’ll have to do some demo photos and post them here.

Right on Kid! I do the same thing with my tray of Rattle Traps. Pull both hooks to the belly ,hook the hooks thru the band and wrap around the body till tight and hook the band back on the hooks. It works !

I will try to put a pic of some traps I have banded . They still hang together some but they are 10x easier to get apart .

The bottom example of the Ch/Wh and Fl. Green is the closest resemblance of how I tie the majority of my lures. I try to keep the trebles together as often as possible and use twisting the band and looping the body to lay forward and binding pressure on the hooks. I’ll try and get a pic up this week………….keep forgetting to get the camera out!

Anyone coming to the GTG this weekend can come see my tackle arrangements. It ain’t perty but it’s very effective!
