Lowrance LCX sonar problem

I’m running a LCX-25c sonar/gps and I am losing my sonar readings occaisionally (the depth will flash and I’ll still get steady temp readings). The gps isn’t affected. I’ve tried restarting the unit and reattaching the cables, but it doesn’t usually restore the depth/graph. Then, all by itself, it will start working again.

While I’m wired into the fuse block under my dash, it doesn’t seem to be getting interference from anything on the buss (there is only three other things wired to buss). Do you guys wire directly to your starting battery? Also, do you use the white power wire (neutral? wired to the – post)?

    Thanks for any thoughts.

Is this running at speed, just trolling along, or doesn’t matter, could be transducer location too. Does it seem to matter what depth you are running?

Well I would think it’s either the transducer or the unit, I don’t think it’s a wiring issue (assuming your battery is good) I want to say I only hooked up the red and blacks on my units, but it’s been awhile so I’m not 100% otherwise mine is wired to a buss and not directly to the battery. I’ve never had any issues on any depthfinder running that way.

Has this unit been updated? Do you know what version of software it’s running? I’ve seen some issues with the newer units out there… Rumor has it new software is comming for them… Either way I’d look into updating the software if it needs it, hope that solves the issue, or try another transducer and see if it still happens.

Edit sorry I do realize that’s one hard to read, giant run on….

check your transducer….it appears that the ducer is not reading the bottom consistently. Make sure its parellel with the bottom of the lake, then tilt it one notch down. that should help!

    Thanks for the ideas.

The problem is inconsistent. Sometimes it happens at speed and sometimes while I’m stopped. Also, it has happened in a variety of depths.

I talked with Doc Sampson at one of his classes a few weeks ago and he did say the Lowrance transducers need to run little deeper then the manual says.

Also, I am running the latest upgrades for the LCX25. (it shocked my fishing buddies to see the radar screen on my unit).

    Thanks again, Mike

Old post, but I didn’t see a solution. My LX-20 is doing the same crap. After 8 mph, I can forget about a reading. If I slow back down to idle, it will pick back up again. The last two times out it has been freezing at high and low speeds. I would also like any suggestions on ping speed, sensitivity, and other settings. The Lowrance 350A up on the bow will pick up the weeds and the fish right on the edge while the new depthfinder just goes from nothing on the bottom to a blob of crap. I mark 3 times as many fish with the 350A and I think old reliable is telling the truth.

As far as transducers, if it doesn’t perform like you want place it deeper in the water and next try your unit with someone else’s transducer. Transducers can fail just like units. The flashing depth (digital reading) is a problem. If the bottom picture looks good you can still see the depth. The flashing depth is more common this year on the new units and I have notified Lowrance also. Hopefully a software update will help.
Auto sensitivity works well, colorline around 70% and ping speed affects the picture a lot. Default is 50% and if you increase it to 100% the chart speed increases to 100% and changes the picture. Test this on the water by changing chart speeds as you travel over structure and you will see a huge difference. 100% ping speed is good for looking for fish at 20 MPH as the ping speed is a measure of how many times the sonar sends sound (pings) each second.
