    Hi Guys,

I want to put a GPS unit up at the bow and I am wondering if Lowrance has inproved their internal antenna units like the LMS-522C. I Network to my other GPS but I like the idea of the antenna being right on top of what I am seeing from my sonar from my trolling motor. Any info would be great.

    thanks,

    FDR

No clue if they have improved, here’s my solution on my boat.

Nick, good idea for mounting. I think I’ll rig something like that up.

I’ve read of some negative reports about that RAM mount. I saw that too and thought it was a good idea, but people are having reception issues with the puck somewhat hidden by the GPS/graph in front of it.

    Nick,

When you are fishing, do you had the depthfinder set the same angle in the picture? I am thinking that it will be more parallel to the floor of the boat for me. Do you have any problems with glare on sunny days?

    Thanks,

I have the new unit on my boat and have had no trouble with the reception.

I don’t have any issues seeing the screen this way, not that I’ve noticed anyways, this way I can adjust it to pretty much any angle to see it better.

I’ve heard some people like the ram mount that has room for GPS antenna, mostly I hear negitive comments, but it works for some. If you actually notice it my antenna is actually higher than the unit so I don’t have any antenna reception issues.

This is just a RAM-D-111U ( believe is the correct model number) ram mount which I took a little brace and mounted the antenna holder on it. Not the cleanest install, maybe i’ll clean it up one day. I’m sure anyone could do better if you invested a little more thought in it, I set it up quickly, and it works so I’ve left it.

I also like it moves the Unit up and closer to me, that in itself makes it much easier to use and read.
