    Hey guys,
Someone I know has helped me out a whole lot this year, and now it is my turn to help him out also. He is looking to buy a flasher for running on his aluminum X-press bass boat. He wants wants to get an in dash unit with a transducer that reads through the alluminum hull so he doesn’t break of the transducer like he did with his old unit. He was wondering if anyone has any experience with the vexilars especially, as well as other brands, and most importantly the feature of shooting through the aluminum; how well does it work?? Any opinions, good or bad would be greatly appreciated not only from him, but also myself.

    Thanks,
    Cade

I didn’t know you could shoot through aluminum? I was under the impression you had to cut a hole to fit around the transducer then epoxy around it?

I’m not sure..but I think that might be how it is. I just know that it is mounted in the hull.

I know Vexilar makes a transducer that shoots through aluminum. Can’t help you any more than that, though.

I have no actual experience with vexilars alumiducer – but have to believe from the info I have read on them that they put their homework in and it sounds like a very good option – it is just epoxied to the aluminum bottom of the boat – seems like a very good option. The FL-10 is the in-dash unit I believe. Good luck with your decision – let us know how it works for you. Chuckles

I had a Crestliner Fish Hawk 1750 and did the same thing. Except I did not use the “special” transducer. Mine shot through the aluminum hull just fine. I didn’t lose bottom ever with that flasher.

My Dad has a “shoot-thru aluminum” transducer on his spare boat. It was on the boat when he bought it. I believe he has the Edge2. The only time there was a problem was when there was a little gas spill that must have eaten away at the epoxy and loosened the transducer.

When you attach the transducer, you want to make sure there are no air bubbles otherwise you will get interference.
