Globalmap 5200c or LMS-520c?

Why is the 5200c more expensive than the 520c when it is a GPS unit only? As far as I can see they have identical GPS specifications and wonder why someone would pay $100 more for a unit that can’t be used as a sonar if need be?

Am I missing something or does the 5200 come with the GPS antenna while the 520 does not for that price?

The other question is about said antenna. What is the difference between the 3000 and 2000 series?

Does the 520 come with any networking accesories? Cables, T’s, etc?

    Thanks.

Not sure where you are shopping?

Jolly Ann (Banner at top of this page) or click here: http://www.jollyannsales.com/ has the 5200C at $499 and the 520C at $649. If you can find these units cheaper let us know. Remember, you get free shipping and no tax. Hands down best service too if you ever have a problem.

The 520C drops in price when you drop the transducer and or GPS puck.

The biggest difference between the 2000 and 3000 is updated software.

The 520C comes with the basic network including a long and short connector cable and a T connector.

I guess I didn’t state that it was the 520c head unit only, but thought that was inferred since I was comparing GPS units. In that situation the 520c costs less than the 5200, but I found that the 5200 comes with antenna so that’s why it’s a few more dollars. I wish they would say what is included with each unit on Lowrance’s website. I couldn’t find it anyway.

It wouldn’t surprise me to see the 5200 head unit costing more. I would expect Lowrance plans to sell 10 times more 520c units. Just economics keeping the 520c cheaper.

What’s amazing is I think I paid close to $499 for a hand held gps when they first came out!

Just to be clear, the bare-bones 520c is about $100 less than the 5200, which has the antenna included. That’s essentially where the extra cost comes from. Other than that, they are identical when it comes to the GPS features.

My original plan was to buy a few cables and move my bow 520c to the back when needed, but I may just get another bare-bones 520c since they are relatively affordable and permanently install that in the rear. I was thinking of getting the 5200, but I think it would be a waste of money….as long as the bare-bones 520c includes the network cables and T. Sounds like it may be the only way to get those items right now unless they have started to get to the market lately.

I got a new boat this year and find it odd that it came with the LMS-2000 antenna. You would think they’d go with the 3000 along with the new locators. Oh well. It’s been working great so I don’t think I’m missing much there!
