2007 Lowrance Sonars- how they running so far?

Opening weekend was my first time trying out my new 113HD. I am pretty happy with it so far but had a few things happen I wonder if anyone else has seen.

In shallow water, like around 2-3 feet the screen would lag like it could not update fast enough. Several times the unit locked up requiring me to hit the main power switch or it would reboot on its own. Anyone else see this?

The unit did not seem to like 2GB memory chips and only tolerated the 1gb chips a little better. I was saving data of the lake I was on to try out some mapping software I got from Doc Samson. I ended up saving alot of it to the hard drive of the unit and transfering later. Oh, Heads up, if you save alot of data, like 500mb, just walk away from the boat for a couple hours while you download the files to the memory chip. Slow transfer rates to the chip in a big way!!!!!!

I also noticed that the unit would lock up if I started saving data while in split map/sonar screen. Worked fine in full sonar screen mode though.

The unit also seemed to choke on the navionics chip a couple times requiring power down, removale of the chip and a restart and an additional shutdown and a re-insertion of the map chip. The chip did not seem to know what map to use automatically though it did seem to remember that I was in Chamberlin, SD a few weeks earlier.

These all seemed minor to me, the unit was never dead for more then a few minutes while rebooting, but I must say that my 332C never in 2 years did what my 113 has done in the first week of use. Hoping it is just a learning curve with me and 2 chip drives and a hard drive to manage.

I haven’t experience any of these issues, only one I’m having is the gps module not responding, then 15 or so minutes later it finds itself and all is well.

Wade sent me some things to check, and I’ve done those, with the exception of resetting the unit. I’d like to find another 3000 puck to try it out before I call Lowrance.

My issue didn’t start happening until about a month after I installed the graph…

    Wallgeye,

Not the exact situation but somewhat similar. I have a LCX 15MT that will intermittently stop displaying the graph after going into very shallow water (usually 1 ft). Once I go back into deeper water, the depth will display, but the graph does not show correctly. Basically, it looks like I am still in shallow water. If I power down and back up, it works fine.

As far as the 2GB cards, I would imagine that is a Firmware limitation. I have a couple 2GB cards that I was going to do the same thing with this summer. The manual for my LCX 15 indicates that I can use 512MB cards, but I am hopeful that was due to the firmware/capacities at the time of printing. I have updated the unit since then. I would think updates would allow for more capacities, but I could be wrong.

I think you can only use 1GB cards or smaller. This may be the reason for a lot of your problems. I’d try this first.

28HD and 520 running fine so far. Using the LakeMaster MN chip in the 28HD and haven’t had any issues. I really like that 520 up on the bow. These are the first color units I’ve had and the 520 on the bow is crystal clear compared to the monochrome units I’ve had in the past. Almost appears clearer and brighter than the 28HD that I have in the rear of the boat. So far they’ve both been great.

Thanks for the posts. I was wondering if the things mine was doing were odd or not.

I have never run into a firmware limit on cards before now. I had a bit of a fiasco trying to get the software updates for the LGC-2000 and my 332C to run. I tried the 2GB cards and the unit just went into a reboot mode until it was removed. Tried a 1GB chip and was on the phone with Lowrance and the conversation was getting testy with the woman I was talking to, she was trying to bail out of the call on me cause she could not figure it out. I asked to speak to someone else, nicely and got a guy who was more patient with me. Entire problem there was the size of the card I was trying to use. I downloaded those updates 50 times I bet before I noticed another card on the desk from last year, was 512MB and tried it. BAM! worked first try with the small card. I was told that the 1GB card should work but he was not sure about the 2GB ones.

Honestly, for as slow as the process is writing data from the hard drive to the memory chip, I guess I am in no hurry to need to transer 2gb of data at a time to the card. 1GB cards are cheap and even with high detail selected you still get 3-4 hours I think of recording you can do.

The shallow water screen freeze/lag is annoying at most I guess, not really expecting to see a fish on the screen at that depth as I am usually looking into the water for something to bang the boat into.

While I was in chamberlin, SD I did notice that the screen took several seconds to load if I raised or lowered the zoom level, cruising it was fine keeping me centered on the screen. I suppose a call/email to navionics might be in order. It could have something to do with the map reading my postion off the GPS and selecting the correct map. I dont think that I was paying alot of attention to the GPS error distance or sat signals at the time. Could have been a poor lock on the satellites also.

I will keep playing around with it. If I am not doing something like recording data to a chip or the hard drive it seems to work all right.

Ran a 520 C on my Yarcraft. as you may have read I swamped and capsized the boat on Milly. Anyway, that 520c was totally submerged for about 16 hours. It is the only thing on the boat that still works. Brought it up to Joes and plugged it in and let it run in sim mode for an hour. Absolutley no fog!

And more than that! I’ll be rigging a boat here soon.

I’ll bring an LCX-112C and some other E-goodies to Everts next weekend.
