I have tried both XL and Elite and heard just about every arguement as to which one is better. I just wanted to know what everybody else had to say about both lines. I have used them both and I am undecided as to which line I like better.

    First off welcome to IDA/IDO
As far as which is better and so on, this is my first year using elite suffix but am kinda missing my Trilene XL. I have fished side by side with someone using the Trilene same rigs and bait and for some odd reason I was being outfished three to one. I think Trilene XL is the way I will be going at the end of this month nothing against Suffix but my lakes fish are more vulnerable to the Trilene XL..

They are really different lines. XL is a very limp, low memory (easy cast) line.
Elite has greater line strength, smaller diameter, and more abrasion resistance (giving it slightly more memory).
Walleye applications…6# test…pitching, drifting jig etc… Sufix for me.
Baitcasting applications…10-20# test for Bassin…XL is hard to beat. JMHO

    Tom,
Any chance you are thinking of Suffix Seige? That is their line similar to the old XT lines by Trilene. It is more abraision resistant. Elite is quite a bit more manageable like Trilene. In my pea sized brain, you will not find a stonger more manageable line than the Suffix Elite. No, I am not sponsored by them either.
I like the way Elite goes through slip bobbers, and I like the hookset power when dragging Rigs.
Both lines are high quality, and you cannot go wrong with either. I think the differences may be so inconsequential that a normal angler may never tell the difference. (I consider myself normal! )

The Siege is even tougher than the Elite … I totally agree with you Tuck but think XL is still a tad “softer” than Elite.
BTW…I wouldn’t hesitate to spool Elite on my baitcasters either. Its an awesome line!

Well, I have given it another try and I fished bass hard over the last week. I have tried several different pound tests and have used both Elite and Siege and I still was not Impressed. I did like the Siege in 8 lbs test for skipping docks but I noticed that I have lost a few fish due to the drying out and brittleness of the line. I definetly don’t think that suffix is bad line, I just think that there are better lines out there. Would anybody have any suggestions on what to try next?

All I use for anything other than trolling is trilene XL .I use alot of line though. It casts great and is very sensitive but it scuffs easily.I am pulling off a couple feet and retying pretty regularly but keep on fresh line but I’ll gladly do this for the other reasons to use it.The only area I don’t like it is in heavy timber.
