Vivid flourocarbon line

I’ve tried several new lines this year for jigging. Power Pro, Solar XT and Iron Silk to name a few, but the one that has stood out the best is a flourocarbon marketed by Cabela’s called Vivid.

I vertical jigged the LBDN with former PWT pro Al Erickson this spring and he put me on to the line. It has a small diameter, abrasion resistant and great knot strength. It is a high-vis yellow but doesn’t seem visible to the fish. My other lines have already lost their suppleness but my original spool of this still like new. Anyone else try this line yet? Here’s a pic

    Hey Tom

My experience with flourocarbone lines when used as a main line on spinning reels have been somewhere between disasterous & futile. This line must have much less memory than the other flouro lines I’ve tried. Have you done any casting with it? How about any use during cooler weather? I’m always interested in trying a new hi-vis line so I appreciate any help you might be to me. Thanks.

The lo-vis is actually Seagar in Cabelas packaging. At least that what I was told at Owatonna.

OK…. if that’s true then I have some experience with this product. Long story short… I used it in cold weather and the stuff EXPLODED on me off the spool. Retained enough coil to the line that it was impossible to cast with. Unless its been changed, it is not a cold weather compatible product!

Been my personal experience that fluorocarbon is disastrous on spinning gear. Had tried the Vanish product a couple of years ago with poor results.

Yup… tried that too. Ended up using the line for leader material for spinner rigs. It worked fairly well in that application. Maybe the manufacturers have found a way to eliminate the memory and tendency to coil?

I’ll watch for that this fall guys. This is the first florocarbon I’ve tried…but not in cold weather. I’ve casted jigs lots with it James but not crank baits. I use 8-10# Stren Magna thin on a baitcaster for throwing Shadraps and stuff. Troll with Spiderwire( you put me on to that stuff

Make sure you let us know how it works once the leaves fall off the trees. Who knows, stuff improves all the time and this stuff just might be THE stuff.

It is great stuff for leaders, but htat is the only purpose I use it for.

The interesting thing about this thread is that it has stayed so soft and supple since May? From what I’m hearing I should be seeing lots of loose loops and coily memory by now.
Hmmm maybe they are working on this stuff?

(P.S.) I’m planning to be around most of the week for the BB/BS and GTG bud. :

Next time we get out James I’ll let you throw some of this stuff on the NEW 6’9″ St. Croix Xfast Med Avid rod I finally got. You’ll really like this one for pitching light jigs!

The stuff I tried was Berkely Vanish. I was so pumped after reading how invisible it is in water. I spooled up a reel and as soon as I was done it all flew off the reel. It would absolutely not stay on the reel at all. So I made it VANISH from my tackle box and just used it for tying spinners. Sounds like the same stuff James used? Your brand must be totally different!

I have only used Berkely Vanish for long snell leaders. It has worked well in this application. After reading this discussion I know I won’t ever spool it up on a reel……….great discussion,Thanks

Bobber, have you had any problem with knot strength? I use it for snells, but have had some problem with the knots holding.

I guess I am an oddball. Oh well!!! I use Vanish on all my walleye rods. I use it for jigging, trolling, casting, everything. I use it year around, on all my ice rods. I have tried a lot of lines and Vanish has been the best I have found.

A couple things to remember about Vanish or other Flourocarbon lines. Check the diameter of line you are using. Often you can use a lighter test line with flourocarbon. Second, give it a day to rest after you spool it up. Yes, it will jump off your reel after you spool it up, but after sitting for a day it will take to your reel just line any other line.

I think the benefits are huge in the winter. The 2lb vanish is perfect for gills and crappies and I use the 4 lb for walleye. For both summer or winter, if you try to use more then 8 lb test you may run into problems. As I said earlier, I use the light stuff and love it.

Don……Well maybe some…….I know you have to wet the knot as you pull it tight. I have been using a trilene knot (fishermans twist) on my swivels….and a snell knot on the hook. Again I think wetting the lines knot is very important.

I used to work with a Pure Fishing rep and he always put extra emphasis on over wetting the knot and cinching slowly to prevent “burning”. For what little I’ve used Vanish, I never had a knot issue using that advice. A “knob” issue still existed though………….it was still me trying to fish with the stuff!!!

Scott………….I don’t know about oddball but you’ve obviously figured out something the rest of us haven’t. I have let the line “acclimate” and it still didn’t work the way I preferred a line to work……….so I guess I need your secret “recipe” if I ever venture to try flourocarbon line on a spinning reel again.

It did seem to be “okay” on baitcasters but I didn’t see a big enough difference to really get behind it. Fireline and Power Pro still rule my casters.
