I have a 74lb Maxxum with loose cables.
I have already tightened up the screw on the pedal
which seemed to help for a while, but now is terably loose
    again.
    Anyone have any suggestions ???

I have the same problem right now and I’m waiting on the parts to show up. Take off the cover of the head unit by removing the 4 screws from the bottom. Look inside to see if the plastic bottom part of the cover is broken. I guess that they break all the time.

If you can’t tighten up the cable by using the foot pedal screw you most likely broke part of the reel under the cover. Take the top of the motor off and check it out. You may just have loose screws in there also. There are two small screws that hold that assembly all together. If they are lose, there will be a lot of “play” in the cable.

If I were a Builder or a Realter I would have had a new boat weeks ago.

I bet!! Everything has its pro’s and con’s ……trust me. I’m making a run over to Minnkota later this week, let me know if you need parts.

    FYI
I think I figured out the problem.
One of the steering cables has worn through the housing. Thus not keeping tension on the cable.
Sounds like a new cable is 12-15 bucks. Thanks Coyote, I’ll give ya a call.
