Lowrance 520c screen issues?

Anyone else have trouble seeing the contour lines on lake maps on their 520 units? The sonar color is great, but when comparing the color on my 520 to my lcx19 when using a chip is ridiculous. I’ve played around with the screen settings but nothing seems to help. Anyone have similar problems or suggestions?

Are the contour lines not showing up well becuase they are to light in color?

I have had mine out several times now on Pool 9 and 10. I can see all the back channels(more that I even new existed) and they show contour lines of wash out holes and deep cut banks and I have had no problem seeing them…I have not changed the factory settings at all. And the only thing I have done is install the Nav North Chip and do some zooming in and out…

Trev, I have no problems either. Which chip are you running?

Only a guess, but I think they used some of LakeMaster’s map database, but only the low definition maps. None of the high-detail maps that LakeMaster offers are included in the units from the factory. You’ll have to buy the chip if you want those.

Yep, the new units have some contour mapping. It’s nothing like what you will find on Navionics Premium or Lakemaster, but it’s better than what we used to get on basemaps. You’ll still want the high def map chips.

Yes, I seem to be having the same problem with LMS332C and using Navionics Premium new this year. I’m thinking it controlled with in the map chip. I’ve messed with the settings on the unit and can not seem to make a major difference. I’d sure like to see them a little better.

I’m running the ’07 Lakemaster chip. It’s not the chip as it shows up just fine on my lcx19. I can see the contour lines, but barely. It’s just that everything is such a light color and very difficult to see. I might have to try and find somebody who’s got a 520 and see what their’s looks like.

Trev, You may already know about this but I’ll mention it anyway… You are aware that you can push the power button to increase and decrease the backlighting, correct?

I am, but didn’t think that could be the problem. I’ll try that – I know it helps a great deal on the hand held Expedition so maybe it will help on the 520. Thanks Wade.

Cool. Try that and let us know. That would be an easy fix for you if that’s the case.

My works fine. One other thing to play with is the screen contrast. I think it’s Menu > Menu > Screen > then there is a setting for screen contrast and screen brightness. I’m using the first version of the Navionics Premium north chip (Late 2005 issue)

Let us know how it works out.
