Could anyone provide some “real world” experiences using side imaging technology on the Mississippi? I am interested in purchasing a unit, but a couple of sales people suggested the technology may have problems with floating debris and current. If you could please share any experiences with this technology (especially on wing dams and in sloughs) I would really appreciate it.

not sure but i would think if they worked as good as they are supposed to that you could learn an incredible amount of info about structure and where the fish hold than ever before. they sure are spendy tho 1000 for a 5 in screen i believe? they would b worth it if they are as cracked up as they are supposed to be

That’s exactly my dilemma. I don’t want to drop a $1000, only to find they don’t work as well as I had hoped and I don’t know anyone who has actually used the technology on the river.

Sandbox, I have used the 987c now for the past 2 seasons. At first I thought it was just another gadget but I have found it to be invaluable. It takes getting use to yes, and you do need to take a few days just to play with it, but I have found things I never would have using it. Is it worth it? I think it is.

I had a chance to work with one last week at the FLW tour event on P4.

It took some getting used to, but I was able to interpret the screen pretty well after not too long.

From talking with the regular users, they indicated it works best when moving in a straight line, with minimal/no chop, at speeds between 2 and 6 mph.

I was on the fence about buying one before the tour, and I remain on the fence.
