External transducer on Ranger

Anyone have any suggestions on mounting an external transducer on a 1989 Ranger 364V. I don’t have room to mount an in hull transducer, there already a Lowrance depth sensor and an older fish finder transducer mounting in the hull. I’ve mounted the external transducer on the step before the drain plug step. works fine at slow speeds but not at high speeds. Attached is a photo of where it is presently mounted. If I move the transducer down to the same step as the drain plug should it work at high speeds. Any suggestions would be appreciated

As long as that bunk isn’t extending past the “transom”, I would install a mounting board, cut to fit the area just to the right of the livewell intake and install the ducer there. Here’s a pic of where I wounted mine if it helps, somewhat similiar. Works fine at 10mph or 50mph.

Thanks Birddog I appreciate the suggestion. That was my thought putting it next to the live well port. I have a break away mount for the transducer so it should be okay either in the water or when loading it on my trailer. Just bought a new Humminbird Matrix 67 with GPS. I really like it and will like it even better if I can get the fish finder to work at higher speeds.

Here’s how mine is setup on my 190 reata, I lose bottom after 57 mph or so.

    Nick,

Thanks for the photo. I’m going to move down to the step where my drain plug is. My Ranger only goes up to 55mph. The sensor is suppose to be good up to 70mph. I’ll be happy if it still works at 50mph.
