Church Planer boards

I bought a set of boards last summer and never really forced myself to learn how to use them. I used them for pulling cranks and they just pulled really hard. They would bounce in and out of the water, and then eventually one would just dive down under the water and not come back up. What am I doing wrong? I thought it had to do with the adjustable weight, but I moved that everywhere and had the same problems. I was thinking I should just take the weight off because I have used the off-shores and had no problems, and the only difference I see between the two is the weight. Thanks in advance guys.

I feel your pain buddy!! Same thing is happening to me!

I got about a 1/2 mile total into these boards in a

    season and a half.

Do you have the flags installed?

If so, did you cut the rear fin off as recommended?

You may have purchased the newer style without the rear

fin. (or a smaller fin that didn’t need removal)

I was kind of confused that they wanted me to take the

hack saw to a brand new board.

I finally ended up calling Church Tackle Co. and they wanted

me to try holding the rod closer to the surface of the

water and to place some add’l weight at the rear of the board (1 oz.) I didn’t think I should have to add weight

to their design and put them on the shelf. I would

like to try them again and then give them to someone

    I don’t like for Christmas.

Lip Ripper has had decent success with these boards but

he does not run them with the flags. He never got back

to me on how he holds or positions his rod in a holder

when using these. How about it Rob! Does it make a difference??

    Lets get this worked out!!

    Dan,

Sorry Dan for not getting back to you. I know we talked about it, but don’t remember???

Anyways, Dan is right. I do not like the “Pro-Pack” or the ones with Flags on the Church Boards. However, without the Flags I have never had an issue with them. They track very similar (even better IMO) then the Off-Shore Boards. I have never found any difference in how the rod sat in the rod holder. I position my Rods at different angles depending on if it is a outside or inside board.

I run both boards in my boat and find them very similar and close on performance, once you spend the extra money on the Off Shore and get the right clips. However, in the mean time you spend almost $20 more a board for the Off Shore boards.

I have also never touched the weight on the bottom of the Church Boards. Never had a reason to do so and I pull some deep diving cranks in some big waves on the pond.

Dan, now you done it. You have me all rev’ed to pull boards and that is still about a month and half away yet with these water temps.

So why is that my boards will pull hard and bounce on the water and occasionally dive underneath the water. I have messed with the weight and when the flags were on, and when the flag system was off. I just dont understand
