Switching out a 4-stroke for a 2-stroke? Easy?

Thinking of my winter project already. Wondering how difficult it is to change my 4stroke merc (90) for a merc optimax. Can I use the same controls, steering cables, electrical connections, ingnition? Anything else I’m missing? My brother is a mechanic so at least someone will know a little. Any help would be great. Just trying to decide if it would be worth it. Thanks. mike

Have you called a dealer? I know most 2 stroke to 2 stoke on the same brand are pretty much the same stuff. Apparently there aren’t many people on here that rig boat, I thought about attempting it once, then I bought a new boat and motor
