Superlines- Trolling

My 3,000 yard spool of Spiderwire Fusion has just about come to an end. It’s the only superline I ever use and its no longer made. So its time to consider some other options. I have read about Power Pro and Spiderwire Stealth and they seem to be the most widely used. Anyone try Suffix braid yet? Or any other brands?

    Thanks

Spiderwire Stealth in 20lb / 6lb diameter is the way to go in my opinion. I use this set up for Open Water Trolling, Contour trollling, Pulling Blades and Fall Trolling. You could get away with lighter test IMO for everything except Fall trolling. Just Ask James.

I quickly (less then 10 minutes ) loss 2 of his primo tuned HJ’s last Fall to the rocks with 15 lb Spider Wire Stealth He made me use his 20 lb reels after that. Never an issue again the whole rest of the Fall (I respooled all my lines to 20 lb after that night).

I have boated literally thousands of eyes with fireline 8# and 10#. I have lost a few cranks to snags, but not many (maybe 2-3 a year). The thin diameter gives significant extra depth that I really like.

    Derek,

I know how you feel about Fusion not being available any longer. I used it for many years and loved it. I have also used Fireline and although it is a very similar product the Fireline just wasn’t as good as the Fusion. The coating on the Fireline seamed to wear off way too-fast on the Fireline.

I switched to 20 Lb Fireline Stealth for pulling/casting cranks as well as on my 3-way pole (I use mono for my 3-way leader). I really haven’t noticed a huge difference between the Stealth and the Fusion as far as castability, etc… goes. If money isn’t an object you might want to try a small spool of the new Fireline Crystal. I don’t know that you’d gain much using the Crystal on the river but on a clear-water lake it might just be the ticket.

    Stren Super Braid!

This has become my favorite line! it is a lot like fire line only each individual braid is coated, line diameter is smaller and it is more limp! i like this better than power pro!

if your looking for some lines to give a test try definitely try Stren Super Braid! i think you will like it!

I used to be and still am (in certain applications) a HUGE FIRELINE fan. I pulled hooks straight before breaking the 8lb stuff. However, on my line counter reels, I tend to find that it binds/pinches under heavy load. That is the reason I switched to Stealth. Is Fireline good for this presentation mentioned???? You bet, but I prefer the Stealth for the reaosn mentioned earlier. Using the 20lb /6lb diameter on even the “Clear” lake of Mille Lacs seems not to have any effect on fish biting.

Note: I used to use 10 lb Firleine for trolling prior to Stealth.

Now, if you are talking about jigging or rigging, I will keep my 8 lb firleine all the way.

On 4 of my setups had stren superbraid. i liked it alot. I know how you feel was totally bummed when fenwick iron threaded bit the dust.

I’ve had no complaints using the 15/4 Power Pro for most of my trolling applications.

15/4 Prower Pro is now the best trolling, jigging, and bobber fishing line

I have been trolling with 10/4 fire line for years and I wont use anything but. I have fished with others trying differnt things but have not been impressed other than one of my freinds using Power Pro to troll ( musky ) and it seemed to be very camparable.
I use Power Pro for casting ( musky ) only and have never had a failure.
Even with the small freys that happen with fireline I only change the line once a year and I probably dont need to do it even then.

I use Fireline for 10lb and under, and Stealth and Stren braids for the bigger sizes.

Stren super braid is my current choice for trolling. I use the spiderwire stealth on my musky rods and like it as well. I like power pro for spinning reels but I don’t like it as well on a bait caster.

I use plain old Fireline in yellow color. 14 LB is the best bet for my kind of fishing.

I don’t know if it’s the best, but I’ve had good luck with it. I never tried it for bobber fishing. I might have to give it a try.

I love the Suffix Braid. That is what I used last year when you and I fished the Red Door. After 1 whole season of use, it still looks brand new!!! I should mention I use that in the Summer. I spool up with 20 # Stealth for the Fall bite. Stealth is too bulky for deep water trolling and rigging IMHO.
