My Universal ducer has gone out, purchased unit new in May of 04. It came as a package deal when we bought the boat. Three year warranty on MK trolling motors, right? I guess not if it came as a package deal?? Only 3 years if I buy it over the counter! What the hecks the difference, new’s new! Not impressed MK!

It should be three years regardless if it came with the boat or not. Any authorized minn-kota dealer can run the serial number for a warranty repair. Did Minn-Kota reject the warranty ?

This is the info my dealer passed on to me after a lengthy conversation. I do trust my service mngr but I hope he’s wrong?? I tried contacting MK about it, after 37 minutes on hold I hung up. Tried again in the afternoon and hung up after 15 minutes. If I could get a hold of MK…

Go to minnkota’s website and find the nearest authorized service center. They can do the warranty work for you as long as you have some type of receipt. They will deal directly with MK and take care of everything. Much easier to do it that way.

You may not even need a receipt. Minn-kota is really good about taking care of warranty issues..

i bought a used 2005 boat w/ minn kota. i have a thing on the MK that needs to be fixed. i have been to all three service centers in mpls area and all have said same thing – warranty not transferable . and if i bought it new they all wanted to see a receipt. so find your receipt and bring it with you to get it fixed. worth a try. But i agree not very good customer service from MK.

If you bought the boat new you should be fine. I have dealt with my local shop several times now. Go online and find your local MK service center. All they need is a copy of your bill of sale. They told me I could make a copy and black out all of the prices if I wished. Just make sure the bill of sale has a date. That is really all they need. I asked them about the registration card that was sent in and he told me that doesn’t really do anything. The only time they use that info if for recalls. Anyway they will want your bill of sale and they will use the serial numbers off of the motor. They should get you all fixed up. It is a lot easier to go through the authorized service center than MK. Be sure to get it in, as it sounds like you are nearing the end of your warranty.

Mk is very good about standing behind their products. I owned a Genesis several years ago. When people started having problems with them they offered a trade in program. They allowed us to trade in the Genesis on any MK motor we wanted. Every problem I have ever had has been taken care of and has never cost me a dime.

If you need any help I could get you in contact with the MK rep for your region.

Never had a problem with getting warranty work, never produced a receipt either, they’ll take care of you. Must be busy season, I don’t think I’ve ever waited on hold for more than a couple seconds, and I called several times last month.

Jason, we have a MK service center up here…that if it was the only service center…I would be using Motor Guide today. This place has been talked about on line a number of times..and it’s not really their repairing abilities…it’s how a customer is treated.

I’ve been very impressed with the service of MK and their service centers with that one exception.

Well I guess I’ve always dealt with MinnKota directly, and no one else, If I needed a part, I’d call them and they’d help me out, I always did the work myself. Never dealt with a service center for warranty work, personally.
