Fellas, I need some help for this summer. I what to know what is the best line/setup for my reels this summer. I mainly fish with open face reels. I fish majority walleyes with a lindy rig in the summer. I use Power Pro for my winter reels with a 3 foot leader. Can I use that type of line/ setup for the summer use. I also have a few sunny and crappy poles with open face reels. Can I use the same setup for that aswell? What are your thoughts. Thanks for your imput.

power pro on live bait rigs works very well, make sure your rod has a fairly flexible tip however. It’s a different animal setting the hook with all of these great braids out there.I like using 6,8 or 10lb trilene xt for leader material depending on conditions Been using braids for the panfish too,a good wire hook can be staightened easily with power pro eliminating a lot of re-tying.

If you want to keep it simple, I’d stay with the PP set-up but “it ain’t the cheapest way” as they say! I actually had real good luck using PP to the swivel and floro leaders when Lindy type fishing. I also find that on the river, which is where I fish most, that PP works just fine to a jig in the stained water. Still, I feel a floro leader will, at times, outfish it if the conditions are clearer than usual. Lines like sensation..etc will kind of be a good compromise for both cost and feel. If you do any pan fishing though, I think a good mono/floro is a better choice all around there. My best suggestion…buy a few more poles and rig’em for the situation. I find having several poles pre-rigged before heading out is a real time saver and a more fun way to adapt quickly to differing conditions and types of fishing I may be doing during the course of a day.

I like using PowerPro on my walleye rigs in addition to my casting rods. For my jigging and rigging rods I use the 10/2 or 15/4 line. The water I fish is never too clear so I don’t worry about line visibility too much. The PP does cost more but you can usually get 2-3 seasons out of it. Like suggested above, it works well with a rod with a forgiving tip and don’t get too carried away with the hookset.

If you’re not a fan of super lines, good old Trilene XT works well.

i use fireline and power pro year round i like the brighter greens for pitching jigs and such so i can see my line better but i love braids cause there is no strech witch makes for faster easier hook sets but all in all i have loved braided lines ever sence the first time i set the hook with it
