Looking for input on 4-stroke engine oil for my merc 90hp. I need 10W-30. I usually get the quicksilver but Gander doesn’t have any, and the auto parts store doesn’t carry a marine oil. My question is two part. Does the oil have to be marine specific or will auto oil do? If it needs to be marine oil, any suggestions (other than a marina) where I could find this type of oil. I live in Madison so most stores you have, I have. Thanks. Mike

I just spoke with a Merc service guy on the plane and asked him the same question.

Basic answer is to stick with the marine formulated oil. They have additives to deal better with the condensation and type of use marine engines are subject to.

Sporting goods stores and marine dealers, or you could always order on-line.

I just got back buying some from walmart. Didn’t ever think they would carry quick silver. They had filters too!.
