I’ve had real good luck with the Wallmart batteries. Cheap, good warranty that they actually back up and the last set gave me 4 solid years of use.

March 13, 2007 at 3:04 pm #548331Wal Mart.. the big group 29 marine batteries they have there. I believe they are around $65-$70.. big yellow batteries with a black top.
Great batteries and battery life, I have had several and only 1 go bad(my own fault). I took that one in and exchanged it for a new battery 2 years after purchase, no questions asked.
I dont like wal mart, but the price is right.
March 13, 2007 at 3:26 pm #548344I like Fleet Farm store brand. I have had good luck with them for years. I bought one of their maintenance-free starting batteries recently and have been impressed this winter.
March 13, 2007 at 3:38 pm #548349I have had 3 31 series from Oreiley’s for 3 years and they are still going strong. I think they were around $75 or $80. That’s a great price on a 31 series battery.

Regardless of anybodys feelings on Wal-Mart, where else can you buy a deep cycle battery, can of shaving cream, wool socks, frozen pizza, a gallon of milk and a box of Cocoa Puffs all at the same store……at 3AM!
March 13, 2007 at 5:39 pm #548407I have Interstate Batteries here at Marine Specialties and I can get you a 15% discount being an Ida Member and get the battery at the same price as Wallmart. Id love to have your business.
MarkMarch 13, 2007 at 11:32 pm #548570I run Trojans for my electric motor and a Wally World for my big motor and sonar/GPS. The Trojans are not cheap but I have yet to run them dead in a day.

so for a price you are willing to push aside a moral obligation to yourself?. sounds to me that you like walmart, you just don’t want to admit it.
BTW, i have had great luck with interstates.
sornyPosts: 1March 18, 2007 at 6:20 pm #550146Can’t beat the Walmart big yellow group 29 batteries for the money. They have a huge 205 reserve min. capacity. I have owned several and know others who swear by them and no problems to date.
March 18, 2007 at 8:17 pm #550166I had 5 of those Wal Mart Yellow tops in less than 5 months, sure they kept replacing them one only lasted 2 days. I went to Interstates and havent had a problem since. I may pay $25-$30 more for the Interstates but its well worth it not having to replace them once a month or more.
Side note if you run a 24 volt keep the 2 new ones on that and run the older one on the motor. You should always run your 24 volt as pairs.

Whooohaa!
How did this one get past me!
Mark, are you stocking trolling motor batteries and starting batteries?
March 19, 2007 at 5:21 am #550327On my old boat I had a 12 volt bow mount trolling motor and a small area for the battery compartment so I needed a compact battery but still wanted one that would hold a good charge, I decided to go with a Optima gel cell battery. When I traded up to a bigger boat I kept everything off my old boat to use on my new boat including the main motor, the only thing that went with the old boat was the trailer. The problem I ran into with the new boat was that the starting battery from my old boat would not fit in the battery compartment of the new boat. Having two perfectly good batteries from my old boat I did not want to go out and buy another one so I ended up using the Optima for my starting battery and the other one for my 12 volt trolling motor. The following year I upgraded to a 24 volt trolling motor so I now needed two new batteries. The problem on my new boat is that the battery compartment for the trolling motor batteries is a real pain to get at so I wanted a 100% maintenance free battery so I would not have to pull them out every year to check the water levels. I wanted to go with the Optima’s again but after spending a good chunk of change on the new trolling motor I simply could not afford the price tag for the Optima’s, the Optima is a great battery but they are spendy. Field Staffer Tim Domaille hooked me up with a good deal on a pair of Delco Voyager maintenance free batteries for my trolling motor I am starting my second season with these batteries and so far so good, thanks Tim.
I still have my Optima for my starting battery and it is starting its seventh season and still going strong. One thing I do to get the most life out of my batteries is to keep a charge on them all year round. I have a 1.5 amp on board trickle charger for my starting battery and a two bank 10 amp on board charger for my trolling motor batteries I just plug them in when I get home from a day of fishing and forget about them. The other nice thing about the maintenance free gel batteries is you can leave them in the boat all year round. To sum this up if you can afford them I would not hesitate to go with the Optima batteries.March 19, 2007 at 12:54 pm #550362Quote:
