I was just wondering what brands people that have them use. Any pros or cons. I was thinking of buying one for my trip to Canada this summer. I was looking at TomTom510 or the Garmin330. Thanks for any help.

Last June a friend of mine took me to Dayton, Ohio to visit the national airforce museum. He had a Magellan Roadmap 800. It was flawless. He had had it over a year with no problems. I bought one and have used it to visit areas that I did not know. It is very easy to use and I am very very happy with it. It made a trip to the state of Washington and the Seattle area very easy as I am a nervous driver and my wife is the world’s worst map reader! Other than that she is perfect! I think you can get a really great unit from Magellan, Garmin, or Tom Tom for around $350 or a little more. I bought my Roadmate 800 from the Magellan online store and saved $313.00 over the price from buying at Cabelas. No state tax and no shipping and handling fees plus the base price was a lot lower. I like my Magellan a lot but I am sure the other’s are good also.

garmin 330 has my vote alot safer than trying to read a map or using mapquest while driving. I was out in north Dakota this last fall Duck hunting with fellow IDA member Where’s Waldo. the garmin had all the gravel roads marked and named. Plus when I thought the road ended and we where driving in a field where it looked like only a few tractors have been. The garmin showed us driving on a road.

I used the Garmin 330 in a rental car while traveling through Ohio. It was flawless! We kept changing the route to avoid heavy traffic and it kept suggesting alternative routes. It was well worth the extra dollars to rent it.

The c330 is a great unit but I’d also look at the Lowrance iWay 250C and the Garmin Streetpilot 2610.

I have an easy way to compare vehicle navigation units here.

I see the 2610 has been discontinued and the one you have is a refurbished one. I guess I would like to stick to a new one. Which one the 330 or the 250 would you recommend.

    Thanks

Both are really good units. I can’t really say that I would take one over the other to be honest.

Don’t shy away from refubs either. They’re some of the best deals going in retail. The have the same warranty as new AND they have been checked over by a factory tech. In some ways, they are better than new. People hear the word refurb or reman and it leaves a negative thought in their head, but that’s really not the reality of it.

My vote goes to the I-way 500 made by lorance. There screen is bigger and they are more user friendly. When I bought ours I did a little reasearch and they seemed to come up the most with the best coments. I have a few units for the plow trucks. Everyone that uses one seems to realy like it. Takes me about ten seconds to show a new guy how to run it and off he goes. A big plus in my book was the screen size is much larger, you can turn the volume down and follow the track with out haveing to squint . The only draw back was they were a little more expesive. I think I paid 640.00 with a 100.00 mail in rebate from lowrance.

    Iway 500 gets my vote

just looked at wades site, looks like they went to the iway 600 now. Like I said a little more $$$$ but worht the money. 699.00 from wade seems to be a good price. Look him up

My iWay 250c works great and the best part is all I have to to is pop in my navionics chip, and I can use it for fishing. Its like getting two units for the price of one.
