Gonna switch alot of my rods to hi-vis line this year for the various reasons and have a few questions.

So do most of you who use hi-vis line, use non hi-vis leaders most of the time or not? If so do u recomend swivels or direct knots? Fluoro or mono?

    Thanks

Im talking about walleyes here of course (We all know bass are green carp, put on earth for people who can’t catch walleyes) , lakes and rivers, stained and clear water.

I use straight hi-vis line on my home lake of Lake Wissota, which has water the color of a moderately strong cup of coffee. I ran mostly hi vis yellow (Sufix Elite and Sensation solar in 8 lb) but started to play with the Sufix Siege in Tangerine at the end of the 06 season. I never had any trouble with fish being line shy, and could reliably catch eyes and smallies from very shallow water even in the middle of the day…so line visibility simply isn’t an issue under those circumstances.

When I would switch to a clear body of water, I would just swap spools and go to a 6 or 8 lb sensation clear. I admit to not doing a lot of rigging, but if i did, I would likely run a hi vis or braided main line with a fluoro or clear mono leader.

I fish mainly the mississippi pools 9-11 most of the time. I have never had a problem using hi-vis line. No leaders required. Shallow or deep flame/pink fireline, yellow power pro, or any hi vis mono works all the same no issues.

Fishing lakes in minnesota where the water is clear I run hi vis fire line while rigging or running spinners on bottom bouncers. For the business end I usually will use either a florocarbon or a clear mono leader. Live bait rigging or shallow jig fishing is generally a clear mono like sensation or suffix. I have used hi vis line some such as the tangerine suffix and have caught many fish. I just go back to the clear because I am more comfortable with it in clear water.

if you fish with many of the top P-4 guys you will find a LOT of HI-Vis mono…no leader needed…no swivel needed.

The lakes I fish are very clear…as is Little Bay de Noc most of the time…same set up…no problem.

I just got a spool of Crimson red Vanish flourocarbon 6#…it will get a work out on P-4 in a couple weeks.

Im making the switch to all ANDE premium monofilament.

Im sick and tired of walking into stores and seeing 200 different kinds of line. I have had bad experiences with every type of line I have used so far, except Ande. It doesn’t cost a fortune, comes in bulk, hi-vis and non, and is used and approved from the oceans, to the rivers of alaska, and every puddle in between.

Just one way to make my life and fishing a little simpler.

I tried using a mono leader and it didn’t seem to put any more fish in the boat, a buddy was using stren hi-vis gold.
