I got a new bait caster and looking for help with which rod to buy. Will use the rod for throwing crank baits and spinner baits fishing for bass and eyes.

My question… what length, what power and what action would you recommend?

    Thanks folks

I actually prefer a softer action rod for crankbaits and I am using All American Fiberglass MH rod at the moment. I use a medium heavy graphite rod for swimming jigs & spinnerbaits. Also, I prefer a lower ratio reel for cranks. My own personal preference is to use 2 different rods & 2 seperate reels for the applications your asking about.

I like the leverage of a longer rod. I recommend the best 6’6″ or 7′ Med action rod you can afford for your stated purpose.

MH is ideal for spinnerbaiting imo..Crankbaits, I like a medium a little better, thats just me. For both techniques combined, I would say a 6’6″ MH rod will do the trick, paired with some 14-17 lb test mono.

I`ve also found I really like the longer handles especially throwing cranks. Being able to use two hands to cast, really saves on the wrist and hands after a full day.
