Hey guys, I’m gonna set a couple rods up for 3 way rigging with original raps and thundersticks need your advice AGAIN, sorry. Getting the accurist for the flippin switch and was wondering what length rod and power to use. also what size and kind of line do you use for the leader? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks again

St. Croix Avid (AC80MF) has been my choice for trolling cranks and spinners. I gennerally use Power Pro 10/2 and use either 10# Vanish (berkley)or Floroclear (P-Line) for leaders.

I’ve always been a big fan of Berkley’s 7’10” Planer Board rod for 3 ways, leadcore and boards. It’s telescopic for easy storage, and sensitive enough to feel if a #5 Shad Rap is running right. I 3 way up to 8oz and it works fine.

The same rods you use for trolling will work for pulling 3-ways. If you already have trolling rods, use those. If not, as others mentioned. A couple 8.6 trolling rods and a couple 9.6 or 10’s and you are good to go.

If you do plan on pulling 4 rigs at once and have never done it before, you may want to start with shorter inside rods.

If you are pulling 3-ways on the river keep in mind it might take 5oz of lead to stay towards bottom during the high water/flow period. You will want a little heavier rod when pulling this much weight.

I also like to use the 10# Power Pro to the bait and 8-10# mono for my dropper to the sinker. This way when you do get hung up the chances of just loosing your weight are better. It is important to remember that Power Pro does not stretch so don’t set the hook or you will pull them from the mouth of the fish. Just a gentle sweep is needed to stay hooked up. On days that the hits seem to be short I like to use mono to the bait so there is some stretch to the line. Again, make your dropper out of lighter line than the leader to your bait
