I just finished installing the liqua lube bearing system on my trailer, First of all the people who run the company are real easy to get a hold of and can answer any questions you may have. The hardest part is getting the right size kit, more importantly the correct steel sleave that the rear seal rides on, The rest is just following the directions. Now the test,Going to central Oregon and back, and several trips to northern Wi this summer. That should be a good test. If you have any questions about the install send me an email. Also you can order the kits from the company.

I was just about to go out and pickup some Bearing Buddies. Do the Liqua Lubes work better?

How much are they for an axel?
    How much is the refills?

I believe that the Bearing Buddies are $10-$15 per hub and the grease tubes run about $2, more than enough grease to last 3k miles. Add a $10 grease gun (if you don’t have one already) and you’re talking about a $35 invensment and $2 a year after that. Dirt cheap compared to a bearing failure on the highway!

How do the Luqua Lubes compare?

orca, did you order the chrome hubcaps with it? Protects against stone chips from cracking the housing. Also gives the trailer a real spiffy look.

The system costs about $90 if you install them yourself. More then makes up for the costs of replacing lost Bearing Buddiies, blown seals, bad bearings, repacking, etc. The initial investment might be steep, but its well worth it. Also leaves more time for fishing since you dont have top perform the above maintanance. A 12oz. bottle of LiquaLube cost approx. $15 here in the Chicago area. I still have some remaing in the original bottle that came with the installation kit from 5 years ago.

Do you have to remove the existing grease in the hub before adding the liqua lube?

I had mine installed at Smitty’s Marine in Lake City, but I believe you do.

absolutely! Get all the grease out of the hubs and bearings. They’ll recommend that you use new bearings and rides unless what you now have is near new and in good shape. Regular hot soapy water will do the job. Dawn dishwashing liquid to be exact.

I had water seep into one of my bearing buddies and the trailer is fairly new, hopefully this new system will help. The hardest part of the install was putting the new sleave on the axle. The new rear seal rides on the sleave and you have to tap it on with a hammer. They give you a tool but its kind of short,be carefull you dont get hammer marks on your spindle. I dont have the covers. Yet. I think it would take one hell of a rock to break that plastic, Its pretty thick. Time will tell how it holds up.

well so far so good. After a lot of miles the lube level has stayed the same and after checking the housing several times during the last trip to northern Wi.the housing felt room temp. Im very impressed so far.
