Prop cavitation problem

I finally got my setup to run right on my 1650 Crestliner with a 90 FICHT, I am probably the only guy with a 16 foot v hull aluminum fishing boat who has spent so much time getting the right setup, but it’s finally done. My new problem is that when I run on plane, whether or not at WOT, and whether or not I am trimmed up or down, it feels like my motor is missing, or my prop is slipping, but I can hear it running perfectly. When I pulled my boat out of the water, there are little black specks all over my prop blade, and from what I have read, this sounds like prop cavitation, and sounds like a pretty serious problem. My prop is an evinrude Viper 17, which is what evinrude recommends for my motor, I raised the mounting plate on the transom from the lowest of the four settings to the next one up, and that seemed to help a little, but didn’t completely eliminate the problem. This cavitation thing has me both concerned and confused, any help is appreciated.

I had your same boat 2 years ago with the same delimma, only with aYamaha 80. It took three prop tries before I got it right. There is no magic chart to go by. I just got my new Crestliner 1750 squared away after my third prop switch and going up a hole on the tramsom mount on my 115 Yamaha.
Dealers should do this for you…try different possible props to get the right combo. Unfortunately not all of them are near water. Your dealer should be able to consult with C-liner or Johnson and remedy the situation. Goood Luck!

I also called the shop where I bought the prop, they said that there is no way it would be cavitation on a 90 HP motor on a v-hull boat, they said that it only occurs on bass boats and other high performance setups.

When you say cavitation, is your boat porpoising up and down as you motor ahead?
