Anybody on here have an opinion on a reasonable scope for a .22 hornet? I don’t want to break the bank – but don’t want a piece of crap either. I was looking at the Leupold VX1 or the Nikon Buckmaster in 4-12x. These look to be somewhat reasonably priced. The FW ok’d a new gun and I am soon to be the owner of a new Savage Model 40 in .22 hornet .

Dad has a 22 Hornet fun shooting gun. I run all Cabelas Guide Series scopes on my big Game rifles. I havent spent over $120 on these and both have been flawless in every kind of weather you can hunt in. I have a 300 Win Mag and 300 RUM topped with these for the last 6 years they have never been off zero and never given me a problem.

Shaley – How are these scopes in very low light/very bright light? I have a couple leupolds and they never “wash out” in very bright conditions, and they also gather enough light that I can clearly see a deer before and after legal shooting hours on many days .

I am very happy with my Nikon Buckmaster, in 3 x 9. Like you said, very reasonable and alot of scope for the $$$.

I run a 3×10 x52 with a 30MM tube Light is not an issue at dusk or mid day. I get less than 3″ groups with my 300 WM at 300 yards at 200 you can cover 3 shot groups with a nickle, If I’m steady that day a dime.

All are good scopes mentioned you wont go wrong with any.

I have a Nikon Buckmaster 4.5-14X40 and really like it. You will not be disappointed. Mine is good in low light also.

Timmy, Before you go buying a scope , check with a gun dealer and make sure you can use it on a .22. The reason I say this is, I read something awhile back(if my memory is correct) that stated that you can’t put a regular scope on a gun with no recoil. It will either not shoot straight or it will damage the scope, not real sure. Maybe someone on here has read the same info? Brad

I agree…the only scope that tops all of the above is the Zeiss Conquest series…but you will pay a LOT more than 120$.
I put a 6.5X20X44 Ballistic Plex Alaskan Guide on my .22-250 and am very pleased. I think it is brighter and has a finer X-hair than the Nikon 4.5X14…had one of those too.

Re the question about scoping a .22—not a problem. You may be thinking about air rifles. Using a rifle scope on spring piston air rifles can ruin many scopes that would be just fine on high powered rifles. Some scopes’ warranties are invalid on air rifles. Leupolds are an exception.
